“A fabulous weekend”
Reviewed 27 March 2017 for a stay in March 2017

We had a fantastic girly weekend stay at Hagg End. The house is great with original features everywhere, very clean and well equipped with a huge kitchen and plenty of space. It's in a great location, very quiet but close to Bowness. The walk which goes straight from the house is a real feature taking you to stunning views in about 10 minutes. Helen was very quick to answer my email inquiries when planning our stay, was welcoming when we arrived, gave us privacy during our stay but was ready to help with whatever we needed. We booked a hot tub for our stay, which was an excellent edition. We are planning our next trip!!!! If booking, there is little phone signal at the house and sat nav won't get you there, so be sure to follow Helen's directions!!! Taxis also don't always know how to find the house, so be sure to direct them when booking!

Thank you for your kind review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Yes mobile signals aren't great in the Lakes, due to lots of hills!! Great for walking though. We are very happy for guests to borrow our phone if they need to ring someone, or give our number to anyone who may need to contact them during their stay. We just ask they don't ring Australia!! The hot tubs are great fun, and we are hoping to get some outside lights sorted over the summer. The directions are Helen proof, and all guests who use them have never had a problem finding us. If ordering a taxi, it is always wise to ensure they know where they are going, even the old hands, get confused sometimes, however this has been a good reminder, and I will put a note in the book I am updating for future guests, on the magic words to use, like 'gated road opposite Windermere Golf Club', although most of the gates are now open!! (Much to my delight).
Thank you again for staying with us and we look forward to seeing you all again.

“The perfect family/pet friendly location for get-together celebrations”
Reviewed 21 December 2016 for a stay in December 2016

Great location close to everything one could wish for but hidden beautifully down a gated road. Good walking from doorstep and excellent facilities within the house. Large kitchen/diner equipped with all one could need for celebration dinner parties. Big comfy lounge to relax in. Plenty of space for a full house plus dogs!!!
The owners,Helen and Petros, were so helpful and friendly ensuring we had all we needed for a perfect stay.

“Enchanting 17th Century Cottage in an Idyllic and tranquill setting”
Reviewed 16 September 2016 for a stay in August 2016

From the very first moment we turned the car into the quintessential English country-side lane leading up to Hagg End - we were smitten. Arriving at Hagg End had the family gasping in wonder - a picturesque beauty situated in breath-taking countryside - we knew we were going to have a wonderful week in Lakeland. Upon entering the cottage, the gasps of wonder kept coming as we all ventured off in different directions (the cottage is Huge) - we all chose our bedrooms (everyone delighted) and then sat down in the beautiful lounge-room to soak in the enchanting atmosphere of this beautiful and oh-so comfortable haven. Helen popped in with some very useful tips on using the appliances - (Thank you Helen - meeting you and sharing stories was very special- I will always remember you).
I highly recommend this charming cottage, located only a short car journey from Windermere. Our 7 nights was not long enough. I will miss my early morning walks, where I spotted a deer and her fawn on several occasions on the property and the resident owl was a real hoot . Hagg End is the perfect retreat - I hope to return again. Thank you Helen for providing such an interesting, comfortable and tranquil Home away from Home.

We would love to see you all again, and hope you don't leave the trip 'home' too long next time. It was a pleasure to have you stay, and we shall remember you too, anytime you are 'passing by', please drop in for a cuppa!!! We often see the deer too, although the fawn is full sized now. It is one of my, almost, daily pleasures at the moment, so often people drive by and don't see them. I haven't seen our owls lately, but hear them often at night. Look after yourselves and have a Great Christmas and a Happy New Year.

“Lovely trip”

Just returned from a fabulous stay -helped by the amazing weather and no rain all week which must be a record for the lakes! Lovely sympathetically done up cottage. Fabulous stay worked perfectly for us. Lovely owner very accommodating. 4 couples and 1 toddler and 1 baby visted. One couple had to have twin room but we knew this on booking. Unfortunately they also did not have an ensuite but enough bathrooms for it not to be a problem. Rare to find a cottage with so many anyway. One king room also not officially ensuite - link to twin room with bathroom at the end. Both rooms can be used independently but for us worked perfectly as a little family suite-although ashame it's a shower room not a bath. Only 1 bath in the other double ensuite upstairs.

Main negative was limited wifi but really what can you expect in the lakes. Could do with a washing line outside but then often not dry enough in the lakes! Also would recommend investing in zip and link beds for one twin room so it could be used as either. Would definitely love to visit again and the trampoline was a great hit with my toddler.

Thank you for the kind review. We find lots of families like the king room with adjoining twin en-suite. Unfortunately the only bath is with the king room, when we did the bathroom up we asked previous guests, would they prefer a bath or a shower, sorry showers won out. Wifi is a problem for a lot of us in Cumbria, we live too far from the exchange to get super fast broadband, but we are looking into other supply methods. (My kids would love it) Normally a washing line is not required, and we have the hanging rail in the utility, but I will be putting a drying rack in to the house after your comments, so thanks for bringing it to our attention. We have wondered about putting a zip and link in to the twin room, and I will now look into this in more depth. So thank you re bringing it to my attention.
We would love to have you stay again, but can't guarantee the amazing weather we have had. Thank you again for your review.

“Perfect Holiday Getaway”

Spent three nights with a large group and there was plenty of room for us all. A great place to use as base camp to access any activity in the Bowness/Windermere area, we covered hill walking, mountain biking, running and lazing around. At night we managed to fill the recycled glass bin with ease and had to get it emptied daily. The cottage was full of character a typical cottage what you would expect in the Lake District came with free creaking floor boards. Finding the turn off from the main road was easy if your driving slowly I was concerned about my MTB on the roof but as my car was low it wasn't an issue but think twice if I drove a MPV or SUV. Great holiday break was had by all.

Thank you for your kind words, and we are glad you enjoyed your stay. The cottage is full of character, and has the quirks that go with a house over 320 years old where the original features have been retained. We do get very tall lorries in and they tend to trim the trees for us!! Thank you again.
