“Perfect retreat”
Reviewed 7 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

We stayed here the weekend before christmas , we arrived on a dark wet night and when we walked into jays nest it was perfectt .it was gently lit with soft lighting and a lovely twinkly Christmas tree , it was warm, welcoming and cosy. The open plan design is fabulous and creates a lovely modern and homely feel to it . After a long day I enjoyed a hot bath ,(good size bath too) and was thrilled with the comfort of the bed , we slept so well . I find it difficult to understand a previous commnent about lacking attention , how peculiar ???iPlease don't let that review deter you , in our opinion angela and Gary have clearly thought very carefully about JAys nest and the comfort of their guests , they are very friendly and we will definatley be returning ! It's a little gem of a place tucked away from the hustle and bustle yet wit hint a decent distance for local walks, pubs and shops. Thankyou we had a great stay .

This was a perfect place to stay for a few nights as we explored the Lakes. The apartment was very clean and luxurious, it was toasty and warm so we felt very cosy during the high winds!! The owners were discreet but helpful when needed especially when we couldn't get the TV working, replacing this for us! Both were very friendly and easy to get in touch with. They were flexible when we needed to change dates at late notice, and accommodated our small baby with a comfortable cot.

“Needs Attention”
Reviewed 11 November 2015 for a stay in October 2015

The flat is in an excellent location. The Owners are very friendly and non intrusive. It has a lovely wall gas fire effect fireplace look. It is large as stated. The view is only seen from a very small window in the corner of the living room. Seen only from one spot on the sofa

However it does not deserve a 5star rating. There are several deficiencies.

The flat has a frig that is VERY small making food shopping for more than three days difficult. It produces excess water that runs into the bottom...and gets anything put into it soggy. It needs defrosting.

The heated floor in the bathroom does NOT work. The iron does not work. It is covered with brown burnt on gunk...you wouldn't want to use it regardless.

The towel heating rack only works when the heat in the flat is on...leaving you with either a hot flat or wet towels.

The provided towels are not Luxurious..they are old, mismatched and need some serious fabric softener.

The bed has no box springs...that is why it is so close to the floor. The mattress pad is pretty nasty looking...glad we didn't see that until the day before we left.

The hand rail to the flat and the deck are seriously dangerous...from excessive moss growing on them. They both need a good power washing. I nearly had a serious accident. I am on medication and such an accident is dangerous. Thankfully I am agile enough. We never again stepped onto the deck.

The utensils are deficient...there are 3 forks and 3 knives for eating. There are utensils for cooking. There is ONE wine glass and a mismatch of drinking glasses.

There is excessive mold in the bathroom in the shower. This is merely from lack of proper cleaning. But a serious problem for those with allergies... besides looking just plain nasty

Make sure you bring toilet paper...as there was none in the flat on arrival, A problem if you arrive at night. There were no dish washing clothes or a sponge to clean up.

It is misleading to say this Flat is Luxurious.

This Flat could be beautiful it is lacking "love"

Thank you for your valued comments. Needless to say we were somewhat surprised by your review - we saw you several times during your 11 day stay, attending immediately to various requests from you without hearing any complaint or comment. It's a pity you didn't inform us of any of your issues during your stay - as always, we would have attended to these straight away. We rely on feedback from our guests to retain the high standards that previous TripAdvisor reviewers have enjoyed.

We have replaced the iron, towels, missing cutlery & glasses.

The underfloor heating & towel rail work fine. Occasionally guests alter the timer control. Again you only had to ask & we would have adjusted for you.

We found one small mark on the mattress protector but have replaced anyway.

We have had many positive comments from guests who have enjoyed a good nights sleep on the pocket sprung mattress & likewise most of our guests seem to enjoy the view over the village & fells beyond.

As usual we have had exceptionally high occupancy this year which gives us little opportunity for internal maintenance such as fridge defrosting & shower grout cleaning. Similarly we are in the thick of Autumn & in close proximity to trees. Leaves are swept 2 or 3 times per week from the steps, and we power wash regularly. We do clearly recommend in our info pack not using the deck during wet weather & you unfortunately chose to step over the plant pots we had blocked the steps to the deck with. Again, as we have just had a couple of days unoccupied these have also been attended to.

Jay's Nest has been built to a high standard and is a great place to stay for visiting the Lake District. You will not be disappointed if you stay there. We will be going there again.
