Beautiful hotel on a gorgeous setting the weather couldn't of been better. The bedrooms had a lovely view over lake Windermere and great building, no lift but you can't get a hotel with every room overlooking the lake view. Staff are helpful and friendly but they do make mistakes but really apologise and make up for it.
The spa is worth going to on a day trip it is the best we have been to Hot Tub outside with lovely view as well with Steam room Sauna and swim pool.

Room Tip: Any room is great

We booked this hotel because of its location overlooking Windermere and the fact that the majority of rooms looked towards the lake.

The hotel is built on a hillside and it tiered down to the lake. It has a lakeside area with some seating, but it is a steep flight of steps to get there and back and you have to walk halfway down the car park to get to the steps.

The reception is two flights of stairs up from the car park and it is advisable to leave your bags in the car whilst checking in. Once you have your room allocated, you won’t have to tote your bags around too much.

Check-in was very easy and we were allocated room 46 which was one level down from reception. The room has two floor to ceiling glass windows and a door leading onto a grassed terrace. The view from the room would have been great if only the centre pane of the double glazing hadn’t been fogged up. Clearly the seal had gone and the glass panel needed replacing.

The grassed terrace is a common area for all the rooms on that level, so you needed to be aware of your door being open if you weren’t sitting in the chairs. That said, we were staying during the heatwave and sleeping was difficult because of the heat, so we slept with the door open and the curtains closed in order to try and bring some cooler air through the room.

The room was in desperate need of a refurbishment, the veneer on the bedside tables was starting to lift through innumerable spillages, the edges of the furniture were chipped, and the bathroom floor tiles were cracked. The over-bath shower was good, but if you nudged the screen, it would swing open with water spilling onto the floor.

We found the food (dinner) in the restaurant was good, but the service was so slooooowwww, it was embarrassing waiting between the courses. People were asking when their next course was coming. We ate from the bar menu the next night, out on the terrace. The dining room had been refurbished to a high standard, then need to move on to the rooms as soon as possible.

Breakfast was a buffet affair and was mediocre.

The spa was excellent, large pool, sauna and steam room with an outside Jacuzzi. The changing facilities were a little odd with a room of lockers and three changing cubicles with shower off that (male and female)

Without a doubt, the views were stunning and made better by sitting out on the terrace with a few drinks in front of you.

Literally from the moment we checked in we were in awe of the view. The service was great- rooms cleaned the morning after the first night, clean gorgeous spa and friendly staff! I have seen a lot of complaints about the temperatures of the rooms at night as the building has no A/C but I was not uncomfortable at all- even staying one of the hottest weekend of the year so far.

Friendly helpful staff, activities all around the town and a delicious affordable restaurant inside the hotel. Great Time!

Completely relaxing and would recommend.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Lake Windermere

Hotel is in a stunning location, staff were lovely and very efficient. For the price paid I did expect a little more from the room, it was quite tired and basic. This being said it was clean and comfortable. Room was very very hot but no surprise really as it was 30 plus degrees outside and hardly any breeze. A bit of investment in the decoration and this hotel would be as stunning as its setting. Definitely will go back.

Excellent hotel, lovely location. Classic room we stayed in was 1 of the best we have stayed in. Very clean, comfortable, spacious. No view as at front of hotel but that never bothered us. When in the hotel we only slept in the room as pool and spa facilities kept us busy and sitting on the terrace with a drink watching the sun set both nights of our stay. Breakfast was excellent all fresh lovely food. Plenty to choose from and fresh coffee taken to the terrace by the staff so you can relax and let the breakfast settle before enjoying the local area.
