Just had a family meal at Crooklands. We didn’t stay over.
12 of us dined, food was good, no complaints. Puds were delicious. Prices were high end for bar food, but it didn’t break the bank.
Staff are friendly, bar and dining area are spacious and comfortable. Family friendly.

Girl friends came for a pre ordered Christmas lunch for 1pm . We arrived about 12-55 & were shown to our table . We had just taken our coats off when our starter arrived . The two waitresses kept looking to see we had finished whipped our plates away & brought our main course . They came several times to see if we had finished, by this Time it had become very un comfortable there was no atmosphere no music in the back ground , it felt as if we were a problem. We said to the waitress could we please have 10 minutes before we had dessert. If we had not said this we would have have finished before 2 pm . We came for a relaxing meal with a couple of drinks . We were pushed the whole time . The one good point was the food which was good . We will not return .

Room tip: We did not stay , only ate in the restaurant

Stayed here for two nights as we were attending a family funeral. Our room was on the first floor. Basic room which was ok but the carpet was stained and the tv was lop sided on the wall bracket - it looked broken. The shower ran hot then stayed cold despite fiddling with the control for ages. We ate there the first night: I ordered the lamb chops and checked they would be served pink. They arrived totally over cooked and I didn't eat them. No one came to ask if our food was ok. When the waitress came to collect the plates she reeled off "was everything ok with your meal" I said no which must have been evident as my plate had hardly been touched. She took no notice and asked if we wanted dessert and coffee! I explained the issue and she fetched her "manager". This person arrived on the scene and made no apology and gave us the impression she didn't really care. Overall we didn't find the place very friendly at all and there was rarely anyone at reception. Breakfast on day one was great and the lady serving was fantastic - very friendly and attentive. However on day two the manager served breakfast. If this person is providing training to other members of staff and setting an example then it's hardly surprising no one appears to have any customer skills! Poached egg (!) was hard and again he didn't come to check if everything was ok with our breakfast. We were sorely disappointed with our stay and will not be returning ever! On night two we went to the Plough at Lupton - a few minutes along the road. Same price food with excellent service - couldn't fault the food, ambience or service!. I would suggest the Crooklands Hotel needs to take a long hard look at their offering compared with the competition around them and improve the training of their staff, including the manager, along with the overall quality of their accommodation and food - or the place will not survive!

Room tip: Don't have a room near a fire door!

1-3 December trip - stayed here before and just as good. Decent size rooms, clean, with sensible bathrooms, even with somewhere to put your things. Excellent breakfasts and dinners with same menu in bar and restaurant. Really good Sunday carvery with freshly cooked food available for a limited period so it doesn't get old. Only downside was that some of the carpets - especially restaurant - very stained and either need cleaning or a skip.
