The Glen Guest House
Ranked #3 of 42 Kendal B&B and Inns
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 14 July 2017

This B&B features 7 Guest Rooms, offering a variety of accommodation options. The current owners, Bill and Pauline, have only been in for
about 2 years, but they provide a very high level of value for money. It is 5 minutes walk, uphill, from Oxenholme Train Station, and less than
15 minutes drive out of the centre of Kendal Town.

The room my Wife and I stayed in, No. 3, was equipped with Flat-Screen TV and DVD Player, Hairdryer, had Plenty of Tea/Coffee/Milk, with great
variety, including Decaf, Speciality and Fruit Teas, plus Biscuits. The en-suite Bathroom, with shower-over-bath, had complementary Toiletries,
including the
interesting additions of Cotton Wool, Cotton Buds and Plasters. A non-slip Bathmat was provided. A box of tissues was there by the Dressing
Table Mirror.

Beds were comfortable and the room and bathroom were clean and tidy. Room No. 3 also gives a wonderful view of 'The Helm', an area of
open Fell-Land behind the Building which is popular with dog walkers and fitness fanatics.

A full English Breakfast is included in the price of the accommodation. It is a pre-order affair, with a form to be completed and
left in the dining area the night before. A selection can be made from Bacon, Sausages, Baked Beans, Tomato, Mushrooms, and Fried, Poached or
Scrambled Egg.

In addition to the Cooked option, Breakfast also includes Cereals, Fruit, Juices, Toast and your choice of Tea or Coffee. When
ordering your breakfast you will also need to specify what time between 8 and 9 O'Clock you wish to eat. While that may sound a little too
regimented for some Guests, it does at least allow Bill and Pauline to plan the cooking well and present the pre-ordered fare without delay.

Being the English Lake District rain is never very far away and there are Books and Games provided for those inevitable
Lakeland wet days. You will also find a comprehensive collection of Tourist Information Leaflets available, covering many of the Attractions
offered by the Lakeland Area. If you need any local knowledge then Pauline and Bill will be happy to help.

The Guest House is also Dog Friendly and has a Free password protected WiFi service.

The Proprietors have really put a lot of thought into the way they run the Establishment and the Service provided.

The other thing to note about the location is that the B&B is a short stroll from the Station Inn, which serves some very good Pub Food at
acceptable prices. That is very convenient for eating at Lunch or in the Evening, as the nearest alternatives involve traveling into Kendal Town.

The Glen Guest House Building has an interesting history, originating as a Farm House dating to 1887, with extensions in 1997 and 2007. As
already noted it is close to the Railway Station, from where an hourly service to the nearby Town of Kendal operates, being less than a 10
minute journey. A Train Time Table is available at the B&B.

On the subject of visiting Kendal, it should be said that driving there is not advisable, as car parking is difficult and the one-way system
can be confusing to a newcomer. If you want to visit Kendal from The Glen Guest House then go by train, or call for a Taxi, phone numbers for
which are available at the B&B.

All-in-all this is a place offering excellent Value for Money and can be highly recommended. And negatives? Well if you want to be really
picky then there were no tooth-picks on the tables at breakfast. Also, although there is a Mobile Phone signal available at the site, it is
rather variable, and the Proprietors can't do anything about that.

There is Ample on-site Car Parking. Check-in time is from 1600Hrs and checkout is by 1030Hrs. Major Credit Cards are accepted.

Room Tip: Room 3 has a very good view of 'The Helm'

We booked The Glen for a weekend, but because of car trouble, had to rearrange at the last minute. Pauline was excellent in handling our request, and couldn't have done more to put our minds at ease.
We arrived slightly late in the evening, but Pauline was there to greet us, and was so lovely and helpful.
Breakfast was amazing, and both Bill and Pauline couldn't do enough to cater for us. The atmosphere amongst all the guests was excellent, and we felt so welcome throughout our stay.
We were given some tips about visiting Windermere, which proved to be very useful, and made our stay that much more special.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend The Glen to anyone. Thankyou so much Pauline & Bill, I'm sure we'll both see you again in the not too distant future. Tom & Vicky

Me and my partner Adam stayed at The Glen Guest house for my 21st birthday, and we were not disappointed! Greeted on arrival by the owners Bill and Pauline, who couldn't of been more accommodating and friendly. The rooms were gorgeous and the beds were godly, they also were dog friendly which was great, as we brought along our puppy Ella. They went above and beyond, and even went out of their way to help Adam surprise me with flowers, chocolates and a bottle of prosecco for my birthday. The cooked breakfasts was delicious and the scenery was outstanding. We WILL be back again soon, as it was just simply outstanding!!
