“Family break”

We enjoyed our stay in the cottage, we were blessed with lovely weather and found the cottage to be very comfortable. We were disappointed however by the lack of privacy. The detached house directly opposite is quite literally feet away from you and if you sit outside on the bench(there is no front garden) you are looking directly into their property which made us feel a little awkward, especially given they had visitors so coming and goings, they were very pleasant and must have felt equally as embarrassed with 4 strangers sat out front looking directly at them every time they stepped out of their front door, we had to use our descretion and go indoors to save akwardness. The adjoining cottage also accesses their front door by a staircase passing your windows across the front of the cottage , again not very private! We had everything we needed inside the cottage but struggled with lack of outside private space ,,there is no garden front or rear so had to walk the dog on a lead down to the lake for "comfort breaks " , my father is very seriously ill and we really wanted somewhere he could just sit quietly and comfortably and relax, he was not upto going out or leaving the cottage so this was difficult for us, he was not able to manage to walk down the shared pathway to the lake which is steep in parts with steps down and so he was a little sad and disappointed, he was really expecting a private garden area to sit in,overall however, a very nice break but feel it's important to let folk know about the "shared space " environment.

Management Response

Sorry that you found that there was little private space and you are right to point this out. Although I have stated in the listing that there is a shared beach and shared outside space, I perhaps need to make this clearer. We have recently installed a rail on the steps leading down to the shared beach area for all the cottages and guests to benefit from but you are also right in pointing out that there is a steep gradient in parts of the path.
Thank you for taking the time to review The Farmhouse.

“Fab Farmhouse, dog friendly in a beautiful setting”

You have private access to the lake -- perfect for the dog in particular. Great furnishings and lovely setting. We especially enjoyed the fireplace every night. The dog loved the walkies out the front door and in general it was a fab location to enjoy the Lake District. Highlight of our trip.

“Perfect Lakeside rental”
Reviewed 2 January 2016 for a stay in December 2015

We were here the week between Christmas and New Year and loved the cosy cottage and walks from the door. Coniston shore is a stone's throw away and there are many other walks/bike rides where you can leave the car at home. Coniston (and the Old Man walk) and Grasmere (with many circular walks from the centre) were a short drive away and kept us all occupied for the week. The local pubs were lovely and the Black Bull Inn in Coniston was a great stop with children and dog for good food and roaring fires. The cottage itself is well equipped and there are lots of books and games, even a piano. The woodburning stove was a delight as was the complete and utter peace, quiet and total darkness of night time - best sleep we've had for ages. A great spot for a winter break but we'll definitely be back one summer to take advantage of the proximity of the lake for some wild swimming or kayaking,

“A really lovely little cottage.”

We had an amazing week at the cottage. Very clean and kept very nice with a lovely private garden down to the Lake. Plus the weather was sunny everyday, we could not of wished for anything better. Just peaceful and beautiful. We will be back.

“Relaxing break away in a cosy cottage”
Reviewed 10 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We really enjoyed our stay at this cosy Farmhouse. It was clean and spacious with access to a private beach overlooking Coniston water - perfect for relaxing in the evenings with a BBQ. It is set in a good location and is about a 5 mile walk to the Bluebird cafe (along the water-front) where we hired a boat. There was no mobile phone connection at the cottage (although there is a landline phone for emergency use) but for us, it was nice to get away from norm for a while.
