An excellent stay at Brown Howe. This is a homely and comfortable cottage with a great kitchen and open plan living room. There's plenty of equipment to prepare meals and we were also provided with a starter pack of logs for the fireplace in the lounge. We have two young children and this was catered for as well including a stair gate.

The location is very quiet and often we came back to find sheep on the track approaching the cottage! We spotted a woodpecker along with many other birds from the kitchen window and found there were a lot of family friendly walks close by - our favourite was Tarn Hows. The accommodation has a couple of walks on your doorstep and, for us, was close to the main towns and attractions we wanted to visit in the Lake District.

The owner, Dennis, replied quickly to any emails and called during our stay to check all was well. The neighbour was also very friendly and helpful.

The cottage was just as described, with a spacious open-plan living room and well equipped kitchen, 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, plus an extra toilet downstairs. It has lots of character, with comfy sofas and fireplace in the living area (also a cupboard full of board games and books for a rainy day). We loved the location - very quiet and with private access to Coniston Water. Unfortunately, it's not possible to walk along the lake from the cottage and the road is quite dangerous for walkers.

Weather was not very promising and we arrived later than expected. When we entered the cottage, the owner had prepared for us egg, bacon, milk...and a bottle of wine! Also, he phoned to make sure everything was good for us. Thanks Dennis, you have a lovely cottage and we had a great time!

This review is for a second visit to 'Brown Howe Cottage'. We decide to return to this cottage after a very enjoyable stay last year and it certainly lived up to our expectations. Dennis (the owner) could not have been more helpful when booking confirmation emails went astray and although when we visited the internet was down, we hooked up to a BT-Fon connection no problem. The location is wonderful, in a quiet courtyard with two other properties, surrounded by woodland and with private access to the lake shore (a short 3 minute walk through the woods). The cottage itself is large, clean and well kept, parking is straightforward with space for two cars at the side (and more at the front in the courtyard if necessary). Would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a get away from it all break.
