Weather was not very promising and we arrived later than expected. When we entered the cottage, the owner had prepared for us egg, bacon, milk...and a bottle of wine! Also, he phoned to make sure everything was good for us. Thanks Dennis, you have a lovely cottage and we had a great time!

“Wonderful cottage in a fantastic location”

This review is for a second visit to 'Brown Howe Cottage'. We decide to return to this cottage after a very enjoyable stay last year and it certainly lived up to our expectations. Dennis (the owner) could not have been more helpful when booking confirmation emails went astray and although when we visited the internet was down, we hooked up to a BT-Fon connection no problem. The location is wonderful, in a quiet courtyard with two other properties, surrounded by woodland and with private access to the lake shore (a short 3 minute walk through the woods). The cottage itself is large, clean and well kept, parking is straightforward with space for two cars at the side (and more at the front in the courtyard if necessary). Would certainly recommend to anyone looking for a get away from it all break.

Wow, what a beautiful house and location to escape to. Sitting in front of the log burner, exposed stone walls and a crafted wooden breakfast bar it what makes this place special. Very clean and well maintained holiday home with plenty to see and do.

We were a party of 8 friends age 40+that stopped at Brown Howe Cottage from the 27/12/14 for a week, the cottage had plenty of space and everything we needed, lovely log fire which was great after coming in from walks that we did, great for bird watching and good to see a woodpecker everyday ! We all had a brill time, great pub in Torver called Wilsons good food and nice atmosphere. We would recommend cottage for anyone. All the best the gang.

“The perfect cottage for any time of the year.”

Brown Howe is the perfect cottage for large groups wanting home comforts on holiday. It's quiet, situated off the main Coniston road but very comfortable. We like the open plan kitchen/living room, very sociable for large parties, but the place is big enough to get away for some quiet time if you want! We like doing short walks down to the lake and along the wooded paths, perfect for the oldest and the youngest in our party, but those with more energy can walk off into the hills.
Dennis thoughtfully provides bird food for the feeders just outside the kitchen window and they attract a wide variety of birds (and the occasional squirrel!)
It's perfect for us, it must be, we've been there 4 years running for a family get together.
