Good for large groups, good kitchen and dining facilities. Nice to have a pool table. Nice to have three medium sized lounge areas.
Probably could do with an extra shower/bathroom, as there were 16 of us, and a wee queue formed in the mornings.
We had a lot of fun having a Eurovision party and a wander round the lakes. Nice garden for outdoor games, but our frisbee tournament was rained off!
We were a group of 24 and booked The Big White House as it appeared to cater for our needs. Upon arrival we were not disappointed, the house is set in a beautiful spot not far from Cockermouth and within easy reach of Keswick. There are 2 pubs within walking distance of the house and The Masons Arms was very accommodating towards us (they even opened up early on the Friday afternoon for us).
The house itself is furnished to a good specification and all rooms were clean and well maintained. The dining room has a fabulous table which is great for dining and playing games. Luckily the weather was kind during our stay so we were also able to take advantage of the outdoor area and BBQ on an evening. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their stay here and we will be back!
We stayed at the big white house for my 65th birthday with frends and it was a lovely house the decor was nice and it was clean and very well a quipped
we had out 2 small dogs with us and it was a nice touch to have towels and blankets for them and they loved the treats. If there was a down side it is that it would be nice to have a TV in the small lounge next to the dining room

We stayed in The Big White house for a friends 30th. House was nice but you could not use any local amenities without traveling by car. The rooms are small and temperature is hard to control. Rooms are either far to hot or far to cold. We have experienced bad customer service, terrible wifi connection and other issues. Our stay was dampened by the insinuation that we had stolen a throw (blanket). Due to the issues with temperature control stated above; Throws (Which were high quality and necessary) may have been moved around the very large house. Contrary to below we had not received a response to any emails we had sent to the management. 'Additional cleaning'? the house will have to be cleaned prior to any other guests attending due to the fact the house provides linen. Labor charges taken out of our deposit at £18 per hour when disputed claimed this was due to the fact there was a red wine stain on a stool which would require to be wiped. We did have an issue with a broken single bed. Ok we had two men who were above 6.2 sit on this bed at once, Obviously didn't pay much to this until it broke. We expected to pay for the bed, and where happy to do so, what we didn't expect was a bill to pay for labor, labor to pick a bed up, labor to take the bed apart, labor to transport the bed, labor to collect the bed and labor to put the bed together. Not when a price to purchase a new pine bed, delivery and assembly is half the price!!! Has management not heard of Google? furniture was decent quality as in not IKEA but hardly upmarket.
We as a group have arranged another visit to the lake district 11.04.2014 but will certainly not be visiting The Big White House, there is plenty of other accommodation far better equipped to accommodate large groups where I am confident we will experience far better and more competent customer service, close to local amenities.
I stayed here with a large group for a friend's birthday. The location was OK but shops and walks we wanted to go on could only be reached by car. Overall the decor of the house was nice but may benefit from a re-think. There was 2 TV rooms but neither of them could accommodate all of us and both were upstairs. There was a snug room next to the dining room but also was small and we could not congregate there. The house did have wi-fi but had a very poor range and could not be connected to from most of the house. The bedrooms were comfortable but slightly on the small size. Ditto the kitchen facilities which were a struggle when attempting to cook for 20+ people. Also on our return we were charged for the loss of a throw which we did not take.
