“What a weekend!!”
Reviewed 11 March 2015 for a stay in March 2015

Six of us stayed at High View cottage on the Friday 6th March through to the Monday of the 9th March 2015.

We had a good idea what to expect from the cottage as we read about it in detail through Trip Advisor however when we arrived we found it all exactly how it was described.

There is only one parking space but if you drive into town and head towards Windermere there is free parking on the left hand side on the first right hand bend, a fifteen minute walk.

The small entrance lobby/living room was lovely and clean and we were soon looking into all the bedrooms and shared first landing large bathroom/toilet and separate smaller toilet/shower room which was also lovely and clean. There were no smelly odours anywhere and all three bedrooms were freshly made up with fresh bath towels and handtowels available for each and all six of us. We quickly found the boiler down in the cellar and fired up the heating, lit the living room fire and before you knew it the house soon became nice and warm. There was free Wi-Fi/internet and wonderful views from the living room window.

We quickly unpacked and made our way into town which was a short walk down the hill. There is a shortcut (Gully) off the small end lightly stoned gravel turning point at the end of the road which takes you right down into the middle of the high street next to the Barclay’s Bank. Don’t park here, you will get told off!! This half tarmacked path can be slippy under foot so hang on to the handrails or each other as you walk up and down the gully and take a touch/flashlight at night as it’s only half lit. It’s quite steep so be careful.

There were many places to eat-out in the town of Ambleside and we were soon walking around town enjoying the sites and luxuries of the towns drinking holes and eating places.

You must go to Dodd’s on Rydal Road which is to the right when you come down to the bottom of the gully, it’s on the left hand side of the road as you walk 100yds through the High St towards Grasmere also go to the Thai restaurant called Jintana on Compston Road only ten minutes back from Dodd’s, both of these were wonderful. You can book a table at the Thai but not Dodd’s.

We walked the fells both days exploring the North and South of the Lake District where we experienced dry but cold weather which was welcomed after working up a sweat.

We all stayed in the cottage in the evenings where we found board games in the large cupboard in the kitchen also making our own up as we went along.

There was a good size kitchen that easily accommodated all six adults with a large kitchen table and we cooked a Sunday dinner while we were out walking coming home to something hot.

In all it was a lovely cottage and everything we could have hoped for to make it a great weekend away with family and friends.

Thanks Tracy

The Birmingham Six

Stayed at High View, a lovely 3 bedroom and 3 bathroom terraced cottage set back in the hill in Ambleside, with another couple - we had a great time, and the house was fantastic.

nothing more to say! we were all very happy! everything was simply enjoable and nice!

regarding the money, we booked the property for 4 days but ended up to pay the Whole week. that was a bit disappointing!

minor things: there is only one parking spot. I got some troubles in making the tv upstairs to work, maybe it was just me not doing the proper thing. it wasn't clear if the property has garden in the back and we could not find instructions for the waste managment.

“Great house with all ameneties in great location”
Reviewed 19 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

While we agree with the previous reviewer that the house, while very close to the village, is accessed by a steep pathway that may be difficult for some people, we found the house to be a great base for our walking holiday in April. The house was very clean with good quality bed linen and towels, and was well furnished. The kitchen diner was well appointed and provided a great communal space for our group dining in the evenings
We had a great stay with the combination of fabulous walks during the day and great dining in the evening. We all ate out one evening and can thoroughly recommend the Thai at the bottom of the hill - as good as anything I've eaten in London

“Lovely cottage ideal for family holiday”

We enjoyed this lovely cottage with good modern facilities.
It's ideal for a family holiday with lovely bathrooms and kitchen with all equipment you need. We spent a lot of time cooking for the kids and found the dining kitchen great. Beds were very comfortable. The house is close (5mins) to great shops and /restaurants etc although walk into Ambleside would not suit elderly or infirm as it is steep.
Weather was good so we did make use of the garden for BBQ's.
Hope to be back next year
