“Top notch stay in a amazing place”
Reviewed 12 November 2015 for a stay in November 2015

We booked the Hall and adjoins Cottages for a group of 16 runners taking part in the Lakeland Trails Dirty Double. We had a fantastic time while staying in the accommodation- which was excellent - great hampers greeted us on arrival and it was toasty warm - just as well as we all got very wet during the weekend! The accommodation is of a very high standard, living up to the description & photos on the web site. The kitchen is well equipped and cooking on the Aga was a real treat. Thanks to Jenny and her team for getting every thing ready and making us feel really welcome. Marie and the Saturday Mud Runners !! We hope to be back !

“Wonderful 5* relaxing stay!”
Reviewed 3 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We stayed at Glassonby Hall for a week in August. On arrival we were greeted with a fully loaded hamper much to our delight! I thought we would find fault with at least one thing but on this occasion we couldn't! Every small detail had been considered. Mid-week there was a change of guests leaving/arriving and Christine arranged for a complimentary change of bed linen & towels etc. It was a restful, relaxing stay with some lovely walks and the weather was perfect which always helps. We enjoyed our stay so much we have booked again to return the weekend before Christmas whilst our eldest son is over from Australia as he has had to listen to us raving on about Glassonby! By far the best rental we have stayed in and we have very high standards!

“FANTASTIC ACCOMODATION”
Reviewed 31 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

This was by far the best holiday cottage we have ever rented. We travelled with 4 adults, 3 children and 2 dogs.
We booked direct with Christine the owner this was quick, friendly and we were given all the necessary information needed for payment and arrival details etc. On arrival we were greeted with a great welcome hamper which was very much appreciated after a long journey.
Glassonby Hall is the most wonderful building which has been sympathetically restored and original features kept, making it a very unique place to stay. The furnishing was in keeping with the building and the hall was very well equipped with a lot of thought gone into the needs of anyone staying here. We had some really good walks right on our doorstep and also travelled a bit further afield to explore the Ullswater area.
If I was too criticize any aspect of our holiday it would be that although the hall has a large garden it is not entirely enclosed so there is a risk of your dogs escaping. Luckily we had a dog play pen that we used for our young dogs. We would like to thank Christine and her team for making our stay so comfortable and we cant wait to visit again and try some other Rowley Estate properties.

“It doesn't get better than this.”
Reviewed 14 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

We came here for a four night stay after spending a week in
London at a rental property that was very disappointing. Glassonby was everything the London flat was not. Beautiful, peaceful, appointed with taste and style, and designed to provide everything a self-catering traveler might need.

The surrounding area is breathtakingly lovely, we enjoyed many walks on the narrow roads and loved the friendly cows who came to fence to greet us. We enjoyed excellent pub meals at the Featherston Arms and the Crown Inn in Kirkoswald, and we did some cooking for ourselves in the gourmet kitchen with AGA cooker.

The owners have done a great job respecting the historical integrity of the property while providing modern conveniences and comforts. There are not many large windows due to the type of building, but the lighting is excellent and it's easy to figure out which switches control which lights. The bed and bathrooms are spacious, and there are wonderful skylights in the upper floors, easy to open and close to allow air to circulate. There is a feeling that the property is loved and well cared for, not just an investment rental someone is trying to make money from.

We enjoyed fires in the family room fireplace and meals at the big table in the kitchen. The birds, cows, and sheep wake up early, so if you like to sleep late, choose the downstairs bedroom and not the master suite. Closing the skylights makes it quiet, but it was nice to have them open in July. The owners have provided a great guide to local activities and attractions, and have a large basket full of maps and literature about things to do in the area.

This was our first visit to the Lake District area. We fell in love with the house and the surroundings. We visited Lake Windermere and found that area to be very crowded and touristy, quite the opposite of the Glassonby area. So glad we chose to stay here, will visit again as soon as we can.
