“60th Birthday celebrations in magnificent setting”
Reviewed 28 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

We were a party of 18 celebrating my 60th. The website provides a great overview of the extensive accommodation, but the reality surpassed our expectations! The Hall was fantastic and provided a great backdrop to a wonderful weekend with friends and family. Extremely well-equipped property, with the owners thinking of everything. We had caterers in on Saturday, and I would recommend that if you have a special occasion to celebrate. All in all, a weekend full of delightful memories

“The most incredible venue for a get together!”
Reviewed 23 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

My husband and I rented out Melmerby Hall and Stag Cottage for our wedding this month. The house as incredible! Talk about luxury! The whole estate was spotlessly clean, full of character and very grand indeed. My entire family loved it, especially those who flew over from Canada.

Where to start? The gardens are fantastic, and a great base to start short walks and to explore the local area. The gardeners paved a beautiful sandstone path from the church to the gardens especially for our wedding and it was absolutely perfect! We had our church guests enjoy a glass of Pimms in the garden and it looked stunning! Everybody loved it and couldn't believe how beautiful the house, grounds, and views were!

The entire house is well-stocked with every amenity you can imagine and all bedrooms have beautiful ensuites! There is even a full sized billiards room!

I would absolutely recommend Melmerby Hall and Stag cottage and would give it a 100% in every category! Thanks you Jilly, Christine and your entire staff for a fabulous weekend and a beautiful home!

“The best wedding venue ever!”
Reviewed 15 June 2015 for a stay in June 2015

After viewing several properties in the Eden Valley, my sister finally settled for Melmerby hall for her daughter's wedding and quite frankly, it was one of the most beautiful rental properties I've ever seen (and I've stayed in quite a few!) and a location that we all adored.

The Hall has apparently had quite a few wedding receptions in the past but from what I can gather, now that it has a licence, this was the very first official wedding to be held there. it was the perfect venue for a wedding with everything being self-contained, private and bags of space. The official wedding 'service' with immediate family and registrar took place inside a very pretty room and then a more relaxed informal 'service' was held on the front lawn in front of 200 guests. We found a company who erected three very large tipis in another section of the garden, enough to hold 250 guests, several large round tables, seating, a ceilidh band and a full buffet which was prepared by an external catering company in the very large, well equipped kitchen in the main house.

The Hall was stunningly decorated with fabulous pieces of furniture (mainly period or antique, light and airy rooms , wonderful interior decoration and practically every bedroom had an ensuite. It was absolutely spotless with large communal rooms including a massive, well-equipped kitchen with a large kitchen table, easily seating 20+ people, dishwasher, large fridge freezer, washing machine etc. There was also another separate kitchen/pantry area which was perfect for the catering company because there was so much space for food preparation.

Other rooms included a fabulous lounge overlooking the gardens, gorgeous 'snug' with working fireplace, another large lounge with big TV, a wood panelled stunning dining room, a full size snooker table in a room on one of the upper floors (how on earth did they get this in?!). a massive cellar for storing our wedding drink (rather a lot!). We also rented the cottage adjoining the property which again was beautifully decorated and very spacious. A nice touch in the properties was a welcome basket filled local goodies and wine. I could go on but I think you get the gist!

Externally, the property had stunning gardens, a folly, very attractive herbaceous borders, a large garden table and chairs (we got 16 round it), a wonderful wood for delightful walks, a very pretty orchard, BBQ equipment etc - and all within the grounds of the Hall so totally private. There was plenty of space for cars plus we were also allowed to use the car park by the village hall which was very useful.

All in all, this is an outstanding property and I'm really loathe to recommend it but it would be unfair not to. If you don't go there, you'll regret it!
