Stayed here from 7th to 10th April.
Four of us enjoyed the most perfect weekend away - with temperatures of 21 degrees in early April the patio area was made to great use as a idillic protected garden to enjoy after a long or short walk.
The hamper was very welcome thankyou - cheese, milk, fruit juice, biscuits, bread, butter, jam, tea, coffee, fudge, toffee, fruit..... don't think I have forgotten anything!!
(Birthday surprise :)
Everything you need to keep the home warm, with kindle, firelighters and wood.
Two lovely size bedrooms with highly finished en-suite bathrooms.
Beds are extremely comfortable and the thick walls keep out any noise or heat or cold!
We thoroughly enjoyed using our map reading skills to navigate the local walks - need to return so we can practice a bit more!!
Just one tip - we need a detailed map of Glassonby putting on any correspondance, our sat nav didn't quite get us to the cottage and we went round and round the village before asking a local where the rented cottages were!!.
There may be a map on their very detailed website - but I hadn't downloaded it.
Great for people who are usually stuck to their phones - the telephone network isn't very good, just used the internet to ring family. Free wi-fi in the house is perfectly fine.
If you are looking for a retreat from it all you have just found it.
Thankyou to Christine and Jilly, loved every second of our stay.
Looking forward to booking again already.

my boyfriend and I were here for a valentine gate away together with my friend and her boyfriend. the cottage was marvellous. so clean, with fully furnished, plus the welcome kit. we all had the best time of our life. The manager (Jill) was more than friendly, and anytime we had and question, Jill was quick to respond on our calls/texts.
the cottage is located at a very quite and peaceful area. corner shop was only about 5 mins drive which was very helpful.
we were all very pleased with the service, and the cottage. it has been more than what we expected.
we will definitely come back again, and definitely recommend it.
spent a 2 nights shirt holiday trip here while viewing the phenomenal lake district and me and i have to say it was such a great cottage to unwind everything going on in busy london maddnes(lol) all in all the manager (Jill) and Christie have been very warm welcoming, fully furnished cottage, came in with some groceries and a touch of local wine. just amazing. Will be sure coming back here in the future. Cheers.
3 night stay at Elk Cottage, with husband, friends and Oliver the bulldog. The cottage exceeded all expectations, it was very clean and furnished to a high standard, it was well equipped, even down to spare towels for Oliver !. The welcome pack was well thought out including not only the basics but a few treats aswell (even Oliver was spoilt !) The cottage is located in the quiet village of Glassonby, which is approx 7 miles from Penrith, so a car is necessary, but the cottage is a good base to explore from. Special thanks to Jilly (estates manager) who was very helpful during our stay.
My partner and I (plus the dogs..) stayed at Elk Cottage over the 2016 New Year, and it was exactly what we had hoped for.
Peace, tranquility and luxury all surround by amazing countryside and within a short drive of the lakes.
Everything you could wish for is waiting for you upon your arrival to Elk Cottage, and nothing is too much trouble for Christine, Jilly and their team.
