Had a delightful 3 night stay at Pilgrims hotel in the centre of the old town of Canterbury. Selected it based on ta reviews and because we like to stay as near to the centre as possible.

It’s the central location and wonderful staff that really made our stay. Along with a very good restaurant attached to the hotel - Dem’s.

The Pilgrims hotel is an atmospheric character building, several hundred years old with all the quirks that come with an old building.

It’s just off High St so you really get a sense of olde world Canterbury. It’s also a few steps from the beautiful cathedral.

We had the Oscar Wilde room which faced out to the street. Well appointed room with everything you need. Have to remember that this is extreme inner city so you are going to get the street noise, theatre goers and students noise when you open the window. There is also noise from the rubbish trucks fairly early in the morning. Btw these guys do a great job of keeping Canterbury high st clean.

The room was quite warm despite it being autumn. We were so tired from jet lag and travel we slept well. Possibly only criticism is I thought the carpet could do with a clean.

We ate at the fabulous Dems restaurant several times. You get a discount as an in-house guest. The chef here does a great job of the food. Breakfast here which is included in the room rate is monumental and will set you up for the day.

This is not a big hotel and I suspect it is solidly booked year round due to its central location and proximity to the local theatre and cathedral. We booked three months out and I monitored the site and rates didn’t drop. I would strongly recommend booking early.

This was a very memorable stay for many reasons. I would return.

Room tip: First floor room to save a climb. Request a fan if it’s hot

The hotel is from the 14th century and very charming. We stayed here a couple of nights in september, and everything was very nice. Our room was quite all right, the bathroom a little too small, perhaps, but was OK and with complimentary shampoos etc. The breakfast was good and the staff very friendly.
We enjoyed our stay here and will probably be back some other time.

Good hotel, clean comfortable bed and nice size bathroom. Good location and car parking at £6 for 24 hours is excellent value. Breakfast was ok but coffee pot cold even when refilled as it just sits on a table instead of a hot stand.

Great location within easy walk of all the main attractions. Room was clean if rather cramped. Service was good, and staff were friendly. There is a quiet cosy bar downstairs to recuperate after a hard day sight seeing. Only criticism is the inadequate shower with capricious temperature controls.

The good parts are that the location is superb, bang in the middle of Canterbury. Rooms clean, staff friendly and the breakfast is very good value and sets you up for the day. On the downside rooms are small and so you would not want to spend a lot of time in then, shower was patchy with little power and some of the arrangements a bit bizarre, only 4 hangers in a wardrobe which is not helpful for 2 people staying for 3 days, room cleaned on the second day whilst we were at breakfast and before we had showered.
