The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and very efficient. The menu is sensibly priced and the quality of the food is superb.

This is a great place to discover on any day of the week and at anytime during the year.

I recommend you try it and book first because it does get busy.

Thank Gasimen

A meet up with friends meant that we stayed over at The Running Horse accompanied by our small dog.

Comfortable atmosphere, bedroom very adequate, clean & well heated. The mattress was great so we had a good restful nights sleep. The breakfast was delicious. We had the full English but were hard pressed with what to choose from the extensive, diverse menu. The staff were attentive and helpful.

Definitely value for your money and if you have a dog, your dog is treated like a member of your family where dogs are very welcome in the comfortably designed bar area.

Best mussels l have had since having them in Fowey. Lovely soft plump mussels in a delicious sauce with a very tasty individual seeded loaf and perfectly cooked frites. Hubby had calves liver, mash and french beans which he pronounced delicious. Service very friendly and efficient.
We will be going back.

Sunday lunch was excellent with good choices on menu. Service was friendly and although the pub was busy there was no rushing around. Lovely setting for Sunday lunch

We came here for a 5pm early dinner on Mothers day and although we have enjoyed a meal at the pub before, we were a little nervous, one sometimes expects these places to have been decimated by a hectic lunchtime.
Absolutely not the case here. The restaurant was pretty clean and organised, servers were keeping up energy and all food options were available. We had lovely roasts and a had a really nice risotto for a starter (think it was butternut squash; highly recommended).
None of our party are local to Winchester but the Running Horse is a good halfway meet option and I'm sure we'll continue to use it as such.
