The meals were excellent. Staff helpful and friendly, quite a few waiting staff seemed to be in training so service erratic or excellent. I booked a "privilege room" expecting it to be spacious instead of which we were given a very small bedroom with a small sitting room. Having arrived early the hotel were fortunately able to move us to a decent sized sunny room with a bay window at the front of the hotel. Taxi drivers queuing outside the nightclub opposite in the small hours made quite a racket.
Surprised that there was no heat source at all in the bathroom. The shower above the bath was a dribble. The bathroom door did not fit. The desk lamp was broken - a replacement bulb did not solve the problem.
Appreciating it is a very old coaching inn, with lots of character, I still expected that a Mercure with four stars would have double glazing. Ear plugs were provided on the bedside table! The room was lovely. The central heating clicked and clonked but was super hot. Good sized TV. Free Wi-Fi.More
