“Nice village, fine cottage”
Reviewed 4 July 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We had a full week at Fieldview Cottage which gave us time to see the villages in the area and many National Trust properties. The cottage itself has a nice main bedroom that is connected by a stairway to an upstairs single bed room. There is no door, so perfect for a child. We were two single women who wanted our own private rooms, so we opted for the other very small room since it had a door, although the bed was hardly a bed since it was a futon with a thin cushion. We actually moved the mattress from the upstairs room and put it on the futon so that it gave enough support to get a night's sleep. The kitchen is complete with pretty much all you'll need. We had no problem finding free parking a few minutes away. The cottage was clean. The neighbors have dogs which bark periodically--not much anyone can do about that. The furniture in the living room wasn't very comfortable, and we spent a good bit of time there since it rained much of our week. The cable TV and Internet worked great.

Hello Patty,

Thank you for your feedback. We are pleased that overall you enjoyed your stay in Tetbury and at Field View. The main bed and single bed have quality mattresses on both beds, which most guests have found to be comfortable. The single Futon in the small second bedroom, is clearly described on our listing and the futon matting is a proper futon mattress and was only replaced at the beginning of this year. It is however, "an extra" sleeping capacity, and we try to make this clear on our listing, again by emphasing the layout of the cottage and if 4 adults were to stay, it would not be advisable for more than a few days. The hire price of the cottage is pitched at a place for 2-3 people. The issue of the door between the main bedroom and loft bedroom, again because it is a character cottage, the structure and layour simply will not allow for this. As you say it's ideal layout for family members or very close friends who do not require much privacy between the rooms. We totally understand that for some people this is not an issue and for others where a little more privacy is needed it is not ideal. We have a floor plan and description of the floor plan on our listing, to try and make it as clear as possible, unfortunately it's not always possible to meet everyone's needs.

The furniture in the Lounge consists of 4 sturdy dinning table chairs (around the dining table) with cushions, a tub arm chair and a designer leather sofa. Most people have found these adequate and actually quite comfortable, for holiday purposes. We can only apologise that they did not meet your needs. We also received comment from yourselves about the direction notice we have placed in our bathroom window which over looks Cottons Lane to help guide guests to the Front of the property. As the Cottage is situated in a Conservation Area, signage needs to be kept to a minimum to respect the traditional townscape and character of this historic town. Thank you for your comments as we do consider all feedback carefully in maintain and improving standards particularly at times of refurbishments.

“Beautiful and relaxing setting”

I traveled with my husband and two young children (ages 3 and 7) to Tetbury in June. The setting was exactly what we wanted - quiet, rural yet walking distance to shops and restaurants, and easy to get to walking paths in the Cotswolds. The house was spotless and stocked with everything you might need regarding cooking and linens. The washer was a bonus for us since we were on holiday for an extended time. A few restaurants and a small grocery were all an easy 5 minute walk away. The town itself wasn't overly touristy, which we really enjoyed and there are plenty of day hikes in easy access (either via foot or car).
To consider before you book: there are lots of steps in the home which would be difficult for someone with mobility issues; the upstairs loft (which our children adored as their bedroom) has a very low ceiling and steep steps so take care (again, not good for someone with mobility issues, especially during the night); as described by the owner, the home would be best for a couple or family with children rather than 4 adults based on the sleeping arrangements.
Note: it was difficult for us to find Field View as there wasn't a specific address online. I would suggest contacting Tanya prior to arrival for directions on exactly how to find the house - I poked around in several yards before I found the right place!

“Perfect cottage and ideal location”
Reviewed 9 December 2015 for a stay in December 2015

Came to Tetbury for a family wedding and chose to stay a few nights so decided to rent a cottage. The cottage was perfect, original features, low beamed ceilings and thick walls. The kitchen is perfect, well equipped and a good size and the lounge is cosy with a log burner. The main bedroom is a good size with stairs up to the beamed single room under the eaves, my 20 year old daughter stayed up there and it was fine. The bathroom is perfect. The smaller bedroom on the first floor is quite small but would suit a child.
All in all the cottage is well maintained, well equipped and beautiful.
Tetbury is a pretty town, very slow paced with most of the shops boutique style. Lots of antique shops but at London prices so beware! We ate out at the Italian restaurant which was reasonably priced and very nice, we had breakfast in a local café called Lynsays and we had a breakfast at the Snooty Fox, both were fine.
Enjoyed our time away but beware, not all the locals are that friendly towards tourists!!

“Fabulous place”
Reviewed 29 November 2015 for a stay in September 2015

My mother and I stayed at Field View for ten nights and used it as a base for our travels around the Cotswolds. The cottage has everything you could want in a holiday letting - well maintained, excellent wi fi, TV with a selection of cable channels, well heated rooms, good range of amenities including a washing machine and the perfect location with beautiful views of the surrounding area.
We were also able to take advantage of the delightful garden and table setting as we had fabulous weather for all of our stay.
Parking was never a problem as there is a very inexpensive long stay car park where you can park all day for only £2. There is also some street parking available close by.
Tetbury high street is only a few minutes walk from Cotton Lane and has a good range of shops including the Highgrove shop where you can buy reduced price tickets for a visit to the estate which is only a few miles away. (You must have some form of photo ID to buy tickets). The twice weekly covered market is also very good for fruit and veg and there is also a fish monger with a wide selection of fish.
Fashion shoppers will also be delighted with all the retailers and there is a large Tescos as you head out of Tetbury towards Cirencester.
My only criticism is that the futon bed in the second bedroom does not suit taller or heavily built people though the single bed in the loft is very comfy but access to this room is through the main bedroom.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this cottage to family and friends.

“Quaint, quiet and pretty perfect”

Had an amazing four night stay here (bar three days of miserable British summer time wedding. We travelled for a wedding and made a long weekend of it!

Easy to find. Cheap long stay parking on the front door step. The attractions of Tetbury on are within strolling distance and there are ample beautiful walks for adventurers (although rain kept us from exploring the countryside too far!)

We were surprised by the lack of places to eat that were open across the weekend - each restaurant seemed to keep to their own schedule, but while we were there had a great curry, a great Chinese takeaway and also enjoyed the Snooty Fox for far too many drinks and nibbles watching the world go by, and discovered the amazing Cafe 53 for breakfast.

Incredibly well appointed cottage (although the iron was a bit naff - we only needed it for a shirt for the wedding - and the shower leaked over the edge of the bath.) Overall a comfy, cosy, quaint chocolate box cottage. We had intended to have friends stay with us for one evening as the info suggested the cottage slept four, but there wasn't really enough room for four adults. We'd recommend this cottage for a couple travelling alone, or for a very young family (baby and toddler, perhaps).

Such a shame we didn't get to enjoy the outdoors a bit more. The garden was lovely and we'd have loved to BBQ. Next time maybe...

Glad you had an enjoyable stay, shame about the weather. We do make the point on all our on-line information that while the cottage can sleep 4 it is an absolute maximum and a party of 4 adults is generally not recommended.
