Thai Emerald Cirencester

Stopped here for lunch on Saturday 16 May on impulse., I had not read any of the reviews on TA beforehand.

The restaurant was very decorated with wooden carvings everywhere, on the tables, walls and carved candles! Lots of Thai buddhas too.

The staff, at first, did seem a bit distant and the waiter almost discouraged us as we turned up at 12:30 and there was one other table of people and he put us on a table right next to them.

He seemed a bit confused when we gave our order too. I think this might be down to lack of English as he didn’t seem to understand but things improved from there. The lady behind the bar was very friendly and seemed more interested in what we ordered. She watched carefully as we sampled our various dishes.

The homemade Thai fishcakes were good as was my husband’s soup. The seafood dishes we ordered for the main course were nice and spicy and the Thai Green Curry was exceptional. Lots of pea aubergines and krachai (Thai Ginger) and shrimp paste giving a very authentic taste. The bill, with wine, came to £70 which I thought was reasonable for starters, 3 main courses and a bottle of good wine.

We would go back there.

Have been here numerous times and the food is always good. The service does sometimes seem a little unfriendly but it hasn't put me off.

Not sure if this was a one off but the rudeness of the staff spoilt the first night of a very enjoyable weekend in the Cotswolds. We had a party booking of 10 and spent over £500 but they could not hide their irritation at not getting us out of the door fast enough even though they knew we were waiting for our taxi's and it was pouring with rain. I would understand if they had another booking after us for the table but we there was none and the restaurant was due to close in 1/2 hour , the other tables were still occupied and no doubt felt a similar discomfort.

It's pretty authetic and usually full. The food is good.
