What a wonderful house couldn't have asked for more it has everything and more that you could want or need on your stay. The estate is very well laid out and can thoroughly recommend the spa. Having breakfast in the sun trap deck is a must if you can which we were lucky enough to have the weather for. Tim is a very helpful host and even emailed while we were there to ensure we were enjoying our stay, a lovely touch. Thank you
Really lovely house, great for large groups like ours. Very relaxing, we found everything we could possibly need for a family break and more!. We loved the open plan aspect of the first floor living area, there is a lovely, light roomy feel to the lounge/dining/kitchen areas. If you're looking for somewhere special to stay, this is it.
So for my first ever review :) I can't help but share the joy this time. When you are away you want someone to take the pain away from the organising, you want facilities to work and you want to feel you are not at a travel lodge, or a self catering franchise. The owners of trout lodge have done a fabulous job. They organise the process, they clearly layout the facilities, the facilities including cutlery, pans, dishes are way above average which makes a difference for catering standards particularly when the group is bigger. There are lots of homely touches, but also lots of touches from the owners to really improve the experience, they go way beyond normal levels of service. The venue was great also, we had 3 families with young children and managed to enjoy one sunny day and even one english day by using the pool and spa and cafe onsite, and a great dvd selection, with above average technology to enjoy it on. Well done and thank you to Suzanne and TIm ... see you next year.
We booked Trout Lodge for a group of 10 for 2 nights to celebrate my wife's 30th birthday and had a great stay. Tim and Suzanne were very friendly and helpful in arranging the booking. The Lower Mill Estate setting is beautiful and the house is a tardis, lots of space, well laid out and beautifully decorated. The open plan living room/dining room/kitchen is perfect for hosting a dinner party and sitting around playing games, full of light with a great view. It was a pleasure to come down in the morning and just sit with a cup of tea watching a swan on the little pond in front, the huge glass front and high ceiling give the place a wonderful airy feel. It has a modern, Scandinavian feel with a log burner, sofas, deep pile rug and a bean bag. Rooms are all extremely clean, tastefully decorated and a good size. The kitchen is very well provisioned, we catered for a big group comfortably. There also games and books, generally everything you need. We also tried the site spa (just the pool, sauna and steam room) which is great, big tranquil indoor pool with so much light feels like you're outside.
Would definitely come back; we came in the winter so the lodge was a cosy place to sit out the rains. In the summer it should be a great base to explore the lakes and get out on the water. Recommended.
