“Extremely friendly and helpful owner”
Reviewed 12 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Even though we never reached Hastings and the beautiful cottage, I am keen on writing a short review in order to say how easy-going it was to book the property and how helpful the owner was when we had to cancel it on extremely short notice. Contacting the owner via phone and e-mail was a lovely experience in itself, as he made us feel welcome on the spot and did answer very fast. When the transaction of the advance payment was a bit difficult because of irregularities in the bank's transfer of the correct amount of money from Germany (euros) to England (pounds), it was no problem at all. And even when we had to cancel just a day before our visit should have started, we only received empathetic and helpful words - and even a very friendly offer concerning our next stay. Naturally, there could not be any reimbursement of advance payments at such a date, but we quickly received all the help we needed to deal with the insurance company. So, even not having been able to travel to beautiful Britain this year, we enjoyed nice conversations and again are convinced of the friendliness and hospitality of British people.

“Beautiful cottage, inside and out”

We stayed with two young children during Feb Half Term. Location is superb, in heart of old town; all mod cons in the cottage whilst it retains its Georgian character. Owners thoughtfully left a good range of childrens' books and some toys. So much to do - Hastings is perfect for young families with child-friendly cafes and activities everywhere. New sandpit and play area on the front. And of course the stunning coastline. Minor niggle that the property backs onto a busy pub garden. Also parking very tricky - most days we had to leave the car fifteen minutes away. However, if the weather is good, there is no need to leave the town as there is so much to do.

Spent a long weekend in Hastings at this cottage which was perfectly placed within a few minutes walk from everything you would need. Very clean and tidy, great fireplace. Will go again.

“Fabulous cosy cottage in heart of Old Town”
Reviewed 19 January 2015 for a stay in December 2014

I booked this for new year, for a party of six of us (three couples). Every year we go away to the coast somewhere and book a cottage, and have therefore seen the good and bad of holiday rentals. Church Passage Hastings is a fabulous little find. It is cosy, with wood floors and original features, but has a well-equipped kitchen and - crucially for a winter break - great central heating. It also has excellent touches that you don't find elsewhere, like really good qality bedding. It is also right in the midlde of the old town, and yards away from the wonderful Jenny Lind pub. Hastings is getting more interesting as the years go by, with a real quirky vibe in the Old Town, with lots of great shops and artsy cafes (though the new town is still a dive). We had an excellent few days at the cottage and would definitely book it again. The only thing that I would add is that parking is not great. The cottage is in a small alleyway on the side of the church, and parking in the Old Town is near-impossible at the best of times. so what we did was drop our stuff off, and then send somebody up the hill to park at the top. I would also say that the owners could get some better pictures done, because the ones we saw did not really do justice to the place. Anyway, it's a great cottage and would recommend.
