Needed somewhere to stay at short notice so booked this hotel based on location, which is relatively central. Rooms were comfortable and had the necessary for a pleasant stay. We had breakfast included which included freshly cooked to order. All very good!

I and my family visited St Ives and we stayed at the Western Hotel at the end of October for 3 nights. Great location - close to St Ives station and to the beach. Placed us in a quiet, clean and well-maintained room. Very polite and friendly staff.

Room tip: Rooms on the back site are quiet.

We booked directly with hotel that uses booking.com engine and paid £125 per night.
Some of the reviews seem to be impressive possibly there is another wing to the hotel with better rooms.

Pros
Centrally located, 5 mins walk from St Ives station and 2 minutes walk from nearest beach, pier and all the shops and restaurants
Very polite and friendly staff
Offered us early check in as we arrived on overnight train
Clean linen and towels and has no bad smell

Cons
The hotel is run by one female who is a receptionist, cooks breakfast and then works in the bar/restaurant area, otherwise reception is never manned.
Overall it's a 2 star budget hotel and gives a run down feel as carpets are dirty in the lobby and stairway and ripped in the room, walls stained and marked everywhere in the hotel.
Overpowering smell in the lobby at meals time as hotel pub/restaurant joined to the lobby.
Housekeeping only asked if we needed anything but didn't offer to clean room during our stay.
Lamp didn't work by bedside.
Very noisy, can hear other guests in the property.
Saw fight just outside hotel due to a cinema and a rundown pub nearby, police and ambulance were called and couldn't sleep for a long time due to high level of noise from the street.
Mattress is very springy and noisy, no AC, no phone, radiator and tv doesn't work.
No complimentary water is offered in the room
Cracks in the walls and ceiling
No lid on toilet seat as broken
Hot water tap splashes all over out of control, cold tap drips and doesn't work fully
Silicon around bath tub and behind sink had turned black due to poor maintenance.
Paintwork peeling off, Windows never been cleaned
No non-slip bath mat in the shower/bath, no storage in bathroom
One basic old cupboard in the room and a Chester drawer.
Breakfast is also basic and offers full English with cheap beans.

Will only stay in this hotel again as a last resort coz of friendly staff and that too for less than half the cost.

Room tip: Stay in a holiday home as there are lots to choose from

Used Booking.com the morning of our visit to find accommodation. The deal was right & this hotel is extremely convenient for the town. The room was average size but had been recently refurbished & was presented to fairly basic but modern standards - all we needed for a couple of days away. Some aspects of the hotel are a bit tired, rooms on the front are perhaps slightly noisy (but not excessively so) & the breakfast was again very good 8/9 out of 10 for value

My partner and I stayed for 4 nights at the end of September. The location could not be beat. It was an easy walk from the train station and no more than a 10 minute walk to either Porthmeor or Porthminster beaches. Our room was clean, the shower was great and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was good but basic. Service was friendly. The only drawback was a little noise. There is an attached pub, the Kettle and Wink, that has live music every night. If you are looking for a super quiet stay, this may not be for you. But if you want to end your night listening to great local live music with a pint or two before heading to bed, this was a perfect end to each evening.
