A perfect gem in a wonderful location
Bark House has been the perfect base for our half-term break. The host is both extremely helpful and friendly and we were given plenty of detailed information before our stay which was really useful. Bark House itself is a great find; immaculately clean, cosy, presented to a high standard throughout and with great facilities including a washing machine which came in handy during a stormy February! The beds were comfortable, including the sofa bed and we were able to comfortably sleep our family of 4. The shower is large, powerful and as hot as you like! The heating provided ample warmth and there is an extra heater should you need it. Surprisingly, given the remote location, the wifi is excellent and supported four mobile phones and an iPad without a problem. Parking is only a few minutes walk away and I was able to pay up front for the whole stay (£21 total for eight days). Port Isaac itself is a fantastic village. Plenty of choice for places to eat and drink at any time of day and the people are so friendly and welcoming. There is a Co-Op should you need a local shop. Bark House is at the lower end of the village so perfectly placed for the Harbour and beach. The location is perfect to explore north Cornwall, being close to Padstow, Rock, Tintagel, Truro. We all enjoyed a relaxing break and will definitely be staying again.

Revamped Fantastic Cottage
Stayed many times at this lovely cottage, it has just be revamped, with a new kitchen, new doors and carpets. We loved it before and now its just got better. All mod cons, clean and tidy, very well equipped and just a few paces from the platt (harbour area). A dream getaway location!

Fantastic harbour location cottage
Second holiday in this lovely cottage. You are 58 steps from the harbour, in a fantastic Port village. The cottage itself is well equipped, comfortable and clean. A perfect base for exploring this pretty area.

Disappointing
This cottage could be lovely however we found it to be dirty and uncared for. The DVD player did not work. The soft furnishings were smelly we could not use part of the lounge area. All the dishes needed to be washed as did the cutlery. The electric fire did not work and the television in the bedroom apart from being covered in thick dust did not work. There was also an overwhelming smell of damp

Lovely Cottage In The Harbour
Second stay at The Bark House. What can I say... Its a perfect retreat right in the heart of the village, genuinely 30 seconds from the harbour, right behind the lifeboat station. The cottage is very tastefully furnished, clean and warm. The beds are comfortable, the bathroom is modern. The wifi works well and the kitchen is well equipped. We will be back!

Perfect Cottage In Port Isaac
Perfect little cottage 30 seconds walk from the beach. My wife and I stayed in Bark Cottage in January, it really is in a perfect location, right in the heart of the village. The cottage is very clean, tastefully decorated and has all mod cons. The beds where comfortable and every possible convenience is laid on, including a well stocked kitchen. The bathroom is very modern and has a big shower. The wifi worked very quickly as well. You really feel part of the village when you stay at Bark House.

Perfect!
The Bark house is a perfect place to stay. A lovely, cosy, clean cottage in beautiful surroundings. Less than a minute walk to the harbour, shops and pub. Can’t fault it.

Just Brilliant!!
Port Isaac is just the prettiest fishing village imaginable. Excellent walks, stunning scenery, and flowers everywhere. The harbour is seconds away and full of attractions - lifeboat station, excellent coffee shops, restaurants and a proper pub! The cottage is wonderful in every respect; very well appointed with all the facilities one needs on a self-catering holiday. The interior is really tastefully decorated and extremely comfortable. The bedroom is a good size and it's very easy unpack and store clothes so you don't need to live out of a suitcase. The smaller bedroom can be used to overspill luggage if you are not someone who travels light! We slept very well in a comfortable bed - and you get used to the seagulls - you're at the seaside so what do you expect?! There are some lovely shops in the village, which is quite busy during the day as folk come to stroll about and take pictures of every angle of Doc Martin's surgery. They go away quite quickly however and from late afternoon the village is fairly tranquil. It's easy to unload stuff on arrival and then turn back to the car park on the road to Port Gaverne. You book this online for the week and pay about £40. There were always plenty of spaces. The walk down/ up is steep but you get very used to it and there are wonderful health benefits. If you want a stunning view of the coastline, walk into the village along the cliff.. its actually much easier walking up from the cottage that way but longer and definitely wimpish! Other stunning places are nearby, such as Padstow, Tintagel and the Camel Valley Vineyard is a must! We stayed for a week and didn't manage to do half the things we wanted , so we'll be going back. It is such a relaxing place for a holiday, i cannot recommend it strongly enough! Bark House is like home from home only better!

Lovely cottage, beautiful surroundings, perfect location.
Our week stay in this cottage was beyond expectations, we had everything there that we could possibly want to make our stay enjoyable and comfortable. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and we found everything very pleasant. The location was amazing and we did book into Fisherman's Kitchen and also had a lovely Sunday lunch at Port Gaverne Hotel all which was within walking distance. The cottage was extremely clean and tidy and the decor was lovely, we went on this holiday for our silver wedding anniversary and it turned out to be a brilliant choice. Would recommend this stay to anyone.

About the neighbourhood
You may recognise the narrow lanes and wave-beaten coastline of Port Isaac before you even set foot in it. The village plays host to the filming of some familiar BBC dramas, including the much-loved Doc Martin with Martin Clunes. It also now welcomes the cast and crew of the roaringly popular television adaptation of Winston Graham’s Poldark. If you don’t manage to catch a glimpse of Aidan Turner (Ross), then you’ll be able to find something equally tasty in two Michelin star chef Nathan Outlaw’s Fish Kitchen. This special find serves up fresh, sustainable seafood that pays respect to ‘every fish tail and scale’. Cheers to that.

How to get there
As you approach Port Isaac on the B3267, follow the road along Trewetha Lane and continue into New Road.
