“Perfect for a family gathering”

We had a great weekend in Rose Cottage. There were 12 of us ranging from 4 months to 60 and there was plenty of room for everyone; the house felt very open and spacious and there was enough bathrooms for the number of people staying. It's well positioned for Chester Zoo, Cheshire Oaks outlet and Chester centre.

The house was really clean when we arrived, but you do need to remember to bring your own hand soap and washing up items. The kitchen was very well equipped - masses of pans and utensils and so many plates that you didn't need to wash them all before meal times to have enough. There was also a dishwasher which is always nice when on holiday!

The pool was great - I read other reviews that said the pool was too cold but I don't agree - I'd say this was the same temp as normal public swimming pool, even my 4 month old went in and enjoyed it. We often had the pool to ourselves which was also an added bonus.

As mentioned in another review, some areas are a little tired (esp. the en suite) and occasionally the water would turn cold or just stop mid-shower. I think this may have been because there was often more than one person having a shower at once - but this was pretty hard to avoid given the amount of people the house could accommodate and the fact there was an indoor pool onsite. The bathrooms also didnt have any blinds/curtains which I thought was a bit odd - especially in the en suite as that wasnt even patterned glass! There could have been a little more seating/bean bags in the lounge as there wasn't quite enough chairs for full occupancy meaning 2 people had to sit on the floor/dining chair.

However, these were only minor things and didn't put a dampener on the weekend. The communication from the owner was second to none - quick to respond and very helpful. In summary, this house met all our needs for a weekend away with all the family.

“Ideal location for Chester zoo, good for large family”
Reviewed 30 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

We have just returned home from our stay at rose cottage for my father in law's60th surprise birthday party. The house was big enough to accommodate all of us comfortably, (we were a party of 8 adult, 5 young children and a newborn!) Upon arrival we were greeted by the owner, who was friendly and I was shown around. We would have stayed an extra night but the owners were wanting to work on the house.
If I was to stay again I would book direct as there was a mix up with the date which is a same as we were looking forward to stay the whole weekend.

Good points
There was enough parking space for all 4 cars in the driveway.
Bed linen was provided with extra cushions.
Every kitchen utensils that you could think of was there, + some extra sets
2 fridges and a downstairs bathroom
Some garden toys for the kids

The not so good points
Utensils were not very clean
House was quite dated and could do with a spring clean and a lick of paint
No soap for hand washing,no dishwasher tablets and very little toilet roll.
Had to be out by 10 am.
Garden furniture were very wobbly.

“Such a shame that my complaint was not acknowledged and the place needs a good overhaul”

We stayed here as a family to celebrate Easter and the size was great accommodated us all . Lovely large rooms and great kitchen with a large dining table excellent. I think there should have been a bar of soap in all the sinks as soap is cheap enough really and I had not bought any with me. I would have bought hand wash if I had known. No pan scrubs in the kitchen which was a pain as well. The smoke alarm upstairs was hanging off the ceiling and none of the smoke alarms worked !As my daughter was cooking some vege sausages and it was quite smoky and no smoke alarms went off! The actual Fire instructions were quite sparse just a small note on the front door. The recycling instructions were a bit confusing as there were no real bins to put anything in and the list on the wall differed to the instructions in the folder for Rose Cottage. The pool was slimy and full of algae and as it is advertised as a heated pool it was freezing! I did text the owner about it to have the thermostat turned up but no reply!! The shower upstairs advertised as a rain shower was not very powerful at all so everyone was scrambling to use the one downstairs! All the windows are blown so looking out at the view was impossible and such a shame that this has not been rectified! No toilet cleaner in the loos either which to me is imperative and I had not bought anything because I assumed cleaners would be there. As there was also no antibacterial cleaners for the tables and work surfaces either. The black bin bags were very minimal and we ran out but luckily we had bought some of our own. There was not enough bins outside. The en suite upstairs was leaking into the dining room as well. This was quite worrying and only noticed the last day.Wifi very poor and only useable if you sat in a certain place in the kitchen then very iffy... The bbq area was disgusting! We were going to do a bbq and had asked if there was one available and were told no but in fact it would have taken ages to clean this up anyway.I noticed there was no vacuum cleaner either which was bad as I had to use the brush and then I couldn't find a small brush and shovel until the last day which were strangely under the sink .There were not enough kitchen dishcloths and luckily I had brought my own again.and we ran out of washing up liquid which we were informed would be supplied! So we had not bought any with us.As for the pool table we find it really bad that we were charged 50 p for each game and it is advertised as the facilities are free! The teapot needs a good de scale as I tried to brew up in the pot and the tea tasted really vile.Just a health warning about the inside! Also it might be an idea to send the info pack before people arrive as some items in the info would have been helpful for us. Apart from this we did have a good time and will use again if it could guarantee the pool will be warmer! ! Such a shame that the supplies are so sparse . Take everything with you don't rely on anything being there !!! We also had a problem with the cooker as no information supplied .I would say it all needs a good overhaul and the pool sorting so the water is heated not just the pool room
