An ideal walk around the outskirts of the city centre of Chester. Work is being carried out at the Northgate bridge, so you have to come off the wall and rejoin it on the other side of the road.
Noticeboards with historical explanations are dotted around the walls in order to explain its historical function.
There is no charge to go around the walls, but wheelchair access is difficult at certain points.
Selection of views from the walls.

The city walls are a two mile walk around the perimeter of the city, and looking down onto the race track, shops, river and the Roman remains.

I often go walking on the walls of Chester, I moved to Chester a year ago and the walls are still my go-to walk. The walk is filled with such lovely locations! Walk past the cathedral, the amphitheater, the roman gardens, the river, the university, the racecourse, and all sorts! I tend to prefer going early in the morning or late at night when it's very quiet. Also some ideal spots for photography along the way too!

The most completely walled city, one can walk all around the walls with views over the city , the river and extending to the Welsh mountains . From the viewpoint of the Eastgate clock one can look along the famous Rows. One stretch of the walls overlooks the Shropshire Union canal with narrow boats passing by .An excellent way to pass a couple of hours on a city visit.
