A fascinating collection of artefacts and paintings. One could spend several hours in this museum which is free admission. Good for a rainy day.

The museum is very interesting, with plenty of things of interest to see. I found the special Degas Exhibition very disappointing.

Out of all the attractions/things to do & see that are available to a visitor to Cambridge, the Fitzwilliam Museum must rank at the very top of any list. Unlike similar museums in France/Belgium, the entry to the Fitzwilliam Museum is free, and in addition there are no restrictions on taking photographs – quite amazing really! Note that the building is closed on Mondays, but open from 10.00am-17.00pm Tuesday to Saturday, and from 12.00am-17.00pm on Sunday. There are a wide range of paintings displayed on a single floor from artists from most European countries including Rembrandt & van Ruisdael from Holland; Gainsborough, Turner & Constable from the UK; Rubens & van Dyck from Belgium; Degas, Monet, Renoir & van Gogh from France and Zuccarelli & Gambara from Italy. In addition, on the ground floor there is an extensive Egyptian collection of tombs and artefacts. We spent 3 hrs there, but could have easily spent another two hours. Ideal for a rainy day activity, but should not be missed whatever the weather. At the end of one’s visit there is an excellent gift shop on the ground floor to peruse as well as a nice café serving a good variety of freshly prepared snacks.

I'm not a serious museum goer, hence the review.
The building was light and bright. It was loaded with art, ceramics, war memorabilia, etc etc - the list goes on ... and on!
As we had a limited amount of time, we went for the audio tour. At the cost of £4 per headset, it seemed very reasonable (BEWARE - cash only!)
The reality was that the headset only really covered a couple of things per room. These were tricky to locate, and some had been removed.
Overall, a pleasant way to send a couple of hours. Worth a visit.

Lots to see at the museum, displayed under different themes. Can spend plenty of hours here as there is so much to see. The exhibitions are changed on a regular basis. Admission is free. Cafe is great to quench your thirst and hunger, and is great value for money. The shop is also worth a visit with plenty of good quality products to buy.
