Dropped in for a bite to eat for lunch. Really nice chicken and bacon baguette and a decent pint of Black Sheep. Simple, straightforward, good value, tasty. And now they are open all day

Good food and good portions, well cellared real beers, friendly staff and locals alike in a nice atmosphere. You could even wind up as a team in a quiz night or making up the numbers in someone else's team.
I have visited Gunnerside many times and found the Kings Head a consistently good place to stop.

We're staying a week in gunnerside and have already eaten at this pub three times. Food is substantial and tasty (not slimming!) and the staff and locals are very welcoming. Traditional pub atmosphere with open fire. Nothing fancy but a really pleasant evening. Black Sheep beer.

Our party of 8 visited on a late Christmas Eve afternoon and we stuck with the traditional fare of fish and chips, goat cheese salad and soup and sides. The ‘Brian’ beer from the Black Sheep Brewery was particularly pallateable. This pub has gone from strength to strength since it reopened and Matt does an excellent job. Not sure about his Christmas jumper though.

Popped my head round the door a couple of times and always left thinking 'nice pub'.

Beers well kept, staff friendly (visited on a lunchtime so ring the bell!), and sandwiches very filling.

Good for walks around the stunning Gunnerside mines.
