We walked from Ilam Country Park to the stepping stones

It was a beautiful sunny day and very hot so we took advantage of the shallow waters and went for a paddle with our pooch.

The area is surrounded by hills
Great place to explore and the stepping stones are a great place to have a picnic.

Dovedale as always been enjoyed by millions of walkers/hikers, and its easy to see why, the scenery is breath-taking, we visited the ' Stepping Stones ' which is a short walk from the official car-park, the walk is all along the side of the River Dove which is overlooked by huge hillsides, the tallest i believe is Thorpe Cloud, anyway most people seem to walk up the left hand side of the river until they reach the stones that cross the river, and then like us sit on the grass bank on the opposite side for a picnic, the grandkids dipped their toes in the icy super clear water and enjoyed every minute, a real treat for a afternoon of fun with very little expense, the car-park is onlyn £3 per car per day.

Dovedale is a great walk along the river. It's fairly flat, so not too strenuous and when you get to Milldale there's a little shop selling ice-cream. Last year we stayed at Ilam Hall but the campsite seems to have closed. So this time we stayed by Carsington Water and drove to Dovedale. The parking is only £3.

We walked from Ilam Park all the way to Milldale through the beautiful Dovedale valley.
It took about 2 hours each way but it was so worth making the effort as there were so many different things to see along the way & lots of photo opportunities.
There’s ample parking at Dovedale & toilets at both Dovedale & Milldale (chargeable @ Dovedale).

Gorgeous place to visit, we went on a Wednesday and it was fairly quiet. Some beautiful scenery. Unfortunately, not very wheelchair friendly or for people with walking difficulties as you can only go as far as the stepping stones on one side. Ice creams and snacks available in the car park.
