After picking our daughter and a friend of hers up from the tennis camp in Brallo we stopped off in the charming little town of Varzi for lunch and stumbled across this little gem.
The owner was very welcoming and although there was no room out on the terrace it was cool and pleasant in "Grand dad's ex-stable".
While the owner regaled us with stories about Varzi, (including where to watch out for speed cameras on the way back to Milan, typically vital information for an Italian driver!!) we ate mixed antipasti including fantastic home-made salami, followed by ravioli al brasato and caramelle (another kind of stuffed pasta - green with ham and ricotta inside). We all thought the food was "buonissimo" and we will be sure to go back next time we're in the area.
It was great value for money and we could even buy a salame to bring home with us for the mother-in-law. She loved it, I got some much-needed brownie points, thanks Officina Dei Sapori!
