“Perfect countryside retreat”

Our stay at Bridge Hill was perfect, even nicer than the pictures reflected. Lovely cottage with real character and perfectly comfy for 8 people.

Had a great time, the cottage was lovely. Bar billiards was enjoyed by all, as we're trying the local pubs.

Would definitely recommend.

“Great location but dated”
Reviewed 26 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Booked through Character Cottages, excellent comms and service etc. Cottage in great village location nr shop, pubs and footpaths. Rented for my mum's birthday weekend with the family. The decor and finish was rather dated and tired, place would benefit from a tasteful modernisation/redesign of space. The kitchenette was tiny, not enough storage, needs a rethink. The window seats to be used while at the dining table were uncomfortable and too small. The shower unit was tiny; I'm not big but it felt claustrophobic. The games room was good fun with the sofa bed in the gallery. Bedroom blinds could use blackout lining!! Overall quite pleased though as the quality of the place was reflected in the price I guess and it was very clean, all linen was lovely and fresh. Best thing about it was definitely the location.

Management Response
31 May 2016
"Character Cottages, as a marketing agency, does not look after or maintain any cottages. The following is written by the owner of Bridge Hill Cottage: "Thank you for the very positive rating which you have given to my cottage. I hope you enjoyed your stay and that you will consider Bridge Hill Cottage again for a stay in the Cotswolds area. As for your specific comments: Bridge Hill Cottage, with its oak beams and inglenook fireplace, dates from the 18th century and, as you saw, is furnished with antiques. The kitchen is neat and fully modernised and the two bathrooms are new. “Tasteful modernisation” is exactly what I have tried to achieve. And I have a continuous programme of improvement: for example there will soon be new (but not ultra-modern) furniture in the games room, plus a new hob and oven in the kitchen (due to damage to the knobs, rather than any malfunction). As for the shower room, it is fitted with a standard-sized corner shower cubicle with sliding doors, and this is shown clearly in the photograph on Character Cottage’s website. On the subject of decoration, half the cottage has recently been repainted and the rest will be done in the autumn, in gaps between lettings. Colour choice, of course, is a matter of taste.""

“Fantastic location, homely, quirky & comfortable”

Please can you pass on our thanks to the owner of Bridge Hill Cottage. We had a really lovely weekend catching up with family. The cottage is in a super location in Hook Norton - we didn’t need to use our cars all weekend. The cottage inside is well equipped and feels very homely. The bar billiards completely enthralled the children and was used constantly when we were inside.

“Lovely Cottage in a great location.”

We stayed here last weekend as two of the group were running a half marathon in Woodstock. Their were 7 of us and we had a great time. The cottage is full of character and well equipped, with a large table and plenty of seats for meals. Two reception rooms with log burners and seats and a bar billiards table which was great fun! The pull out bed on the mezzanine was OK but if your on the tall side you may struggle, same with the bunk beds.
Lovely location with walks and pubs/shops within 2 mins walk!
Would definitely recommend this cottage.
