I am Jersey and we booked Radio Tower and Kempt Tower for 16 family members coming over from the UK for a get together.
I hadn't visited this Jersey Heritage Property before the family arrived so was a bit worried how it would work out.
This is a beautiful property extremely well thought out. It is fully equipped for 12 people with an incredible kitchen full of pots and pans and a double oven, large fridge and separate freezer, microwave, toaster ,dishwasher and washing machine.
It was all spotlessly clean apart from minor issues with the dishwasher not working properly as it was clogged (which we cleaned out) and some wet towels left from the ? previous occupants in the washing machine. Otherwise it was perfect. Considering the cleaners have just a few hours to get it ready between let's they do a fantastic job.
The entrance is up some steps and takes you into the middle part of the tower which is one big circle made up of 4 double beds each with one bunk bed on top. There are screens to separate each bed section but you are very close to each other so you need to be bestest friends or a family that all get on.
The sofa and TV and wood burning stove are in the same circle as the beds separated by a granite wall.
Down some steep granite stairs is the fabulous dining table that fits 12+, a separate kitchen and the 2 showers and 3 toilets.
Up some more steep granite steps is the roof . You need good weather to get the most out of this area. You have no view from inside the tower but from the roof the view is fantastic. We asked permission to have a barbecue up there which was granted.( there's a place across the road to dispose of ash) . We also had the best week of the summer so I can't tell you how glorious it was to be having a barbecue watching the sunset. You have to be very lucky not to experience windy conditions at St Ouens . It was even quite windy for us but ducking close to the wall allowed us to have two fantastic barbecues with amazing sunsets. First thing in the morning you can go across the road to bird watch. It's pretty amazing.
You have to be very careful going down the granite stairs not to fall or knock your head so the place comes with a warning to take care at all times. Lots of steep steps.
It's a great place to stay if you are a large family. You wouldn't want to be 12 people there for a whole week. You needs kids to be in the bunk bed and you've all got to go bed at the same time.
It's novel it's quirky ( that's official it's got an award) and you won't be disappointed
A group of 12 adults visited the tower for a weekend birthday celebration. The accommodation was quirky, spotless and a pleasure to stay in, and that was in the winter......I can only imagine what it would be like in the summer!
We have just spent a weekend at Kempt Tower. What an amazing experience. Built in 1834 this Tower has been sensitively restored to create a stunning and unique self-catering property. We were concerned that booking it in January it would be on the chilly side. We walked in and were amazed. It was really warm and cosy, the heating was already on and this included the underfloor heating in the bathroom. We watched the sunset from the roof terrace, which gave us a 360 degree view of St Ouens. We then put the log burning stove on and enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine. The dining table seated 12 comfortably and we sat down to a lovely meal with friends. The evening was spent on the spacious settees in front of the log burning stove chatting and playing silly games! The bunk beds were made up with crisp white sheets and white bath towels were also provided. We all slept soundly and woke up early to watch the sunrise from the roof terrace while enjoying a bacon butty and hot mug of coffee. Hot showers were followed by a fresh brisk walk along the top of the wall in St Ouens, dodging the waves as they came over the wall. Back to the Tower for a lovely seafood lunch and then a relaxing afternoon snuggled on the sofa's in front of the stove and TV.
Then unfortunately back to reality..........
What a lovely weekend, we would highly recommend it for family's or a group of adults. Ideal for locals or for visitors. A truly wonderful experience which will not be forgotten. We have all been chatting and may make it an annual experience. Many thanks Jersey Heritage.
