Nice Stay at the Landing Resort

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 Jul 2021
The Landing Resort is a great choice to stay in Lake Tahoe. It is on the Lake across the street in South Lake. I want to give the staff a 5 star rating as they were over the top helpful and made our large group feel very welcomed and cared for. The van drivers were all great and the service to the local areas was convenient. I would recommend the Kahle park walk to beautiful Nevada Beach. We spent 2 afternoons at Nevada Beach which we preferred over the beach at the hotel. Jimmy"s was nice for breakfast but it was crowded at dinner but one night they bent over backwards on a busy night to seat us as we were too tired to go anywhere outside the hotel. We had the room cleaned once during our stay due to Covid rules. The 5 star is for the very comfortable bed, beautiful bathrooms with upscale towels and bath products. The 4 star is that the price didn't match other upscale resorts which isn't the staff's fault. Given COVID restrictions, I would have appreciated more outdoor lounging space since the beach access was closed at night. They have a terrace upstairs which was closed which would be nice to have lounge chairs/fire pits, etc. But it was closed off. Maybe due to covid. I would have appreciated if the hotel loaned out beach chairs and/or umbrellas to take to the beach for the day so we didn't have to rent them, they do give beach towels though. Mid way through the week , they started having coffee in the lobby in the morning which was great but missed having it early in the week. The pool is nice even though it is basically in the parking lot but not 5 star resort rating. So I would like to give The Landing 4.5 stars if I could. Overall, very glad we stayed there. The staff definitely 5 star and thank you for all your help!

Room Tip: 3 rd floor, best views of Lake, less street noise. Better not to be over restaurant

Main issue is that this is nowhere near a $1k/night hotel. It’s clearly a renovated motel - and not even a great one at that. The good - nice bedding, good toiletries, lovely service at the front desk. The bad - you can hear every step from the rooms above you and next to you. All day. All the time. 5am. 3am. Nonstop. You can hear the water run and the toilets flush. You can hear every door moving with a creak. The view is nice, but between the room and the lake is a parking lot. Service at Jimmy’s is horrendous, and the food is mediocre. For the price, not even close to worth it. Horrible bones, they just tried to dress it up. Worth maybe 30% of the price.

We booked this room for a much needed time away. We got a lakefront suite, which was absolutely beautiful. Great bathroom with many nice amenities. The porch was large and had a beautiful view of the lake. The shuttle drivers, especially Jason, were beyond helpful and courteous. Housekeeping did a nice job cleaning the room.

The cons: management did not warn us that the very expensive suite we reserved was directly above the restaurant and next to their party pavilion; as in people could easily swing open our gate and use our patio. If we didn’t close our curtains, we could have watched the party from the room. There was a pretty good sized wedding going on. .Quiet time begins at 10, but that doesn’t include clean up time by the staff.
Also, sound insulation between the floors was almost non existent and the people above us were almost constant pounding around, I think they had either children or were practicing for River Dance.
Front desk really dropped the ball at check in and didn’t go over any amenities or what was included in the stay.
Basically handed us the room key and shooed us off.

All that to say, this is not a relaxing place to stay if that’s what you’re looking for. Management did work with us on taking some money off, although it took a lot of effort. They promised to do better for future guests.

Dear MJRandloph,

Thank you so much for taking the time to review our resort. We appreciate your kind comments about Jason, the housekeeping team and our Front of House team on property and are glad that you had positive interactions with our staff. We are disappointed to hear about the noise and the lack of privacy that you experienced while in our lakefront suite. Thank you for taking the time to speak with our leadership to try to rectify the situation while on property. We know that taking time out of your vacation to speak with us is not what is expected for a vacation and I apologize that you had to have to seek out assistance from multiple different people to find a solution. As promised, we will certainly use your feedback to improve our guest experience for the future. We hope to host you again at The Landing, Lake Tahoe should your travels bring you back to the area to showcase the five-star service for which we are known and provide you with a more relaxing stay.

We (my Girlfriend and I, and our son) have stayed there twice now and it is the perfect place to stay in Tahoe. We even brought our mutt the second time as they are very pet friendly. I met the hotel manager on our first stay and he was patrolling the grounds with his side kick, which made it seem even more welcoming, so we brought our terrible terrier for the second trip.

The location and views of the lake alone are worth the stay but the staff and accommodations are what really stand out. The manager was very friendly. He was in the lobby and greeted us on our first stay and remembered us when we came back. He and his staff really made us feel welcome. You can even start relaxing right at check in with a glass of champagne.

Like I said the location is perfect. They are right on the state line in south shore literally RIGHT ON THE LAKE SHORE. Just walk across the street to a really nice beach.

The rooms are beautifully appointed with a cozy fire place and sitting area along with a furnished balcony overlooking the lake. we had a refrigerator and brand new (labels still on) Lavazza expresso maker in the room that made a delicious cup of expresso with the complementary expresso cups they provided. The bathrooms have heated floors, a jacuzzi style tub and a large rain shower. The bathrooms are very nice and looked as if they were recently updated. They have louvered shutters that open up the bathroom to the rest of the room for the fireplace and natural light. My only suggestion would be to add a latch to the shutters though. I can see how it would be really nice to have them open up to the room for the fireplace during a romantic get away, not so much on a family getaway with a son who's practicing to be a peeping tom. They even provide really nice robes and slippers to relax in after a good soak.

Their on site restaurant Jimmy's, is just delicious with excellent food and craft cocktails along with live music in the evening. Their rib eye steak is one of the best I've ever had and my girlfriend really liked the three hoof bolognese. The best part was our first stay was during the middle of Covid so we had room service deliver and we enjoyed eating on our balcony. It was way more relaxing than having to go out to eat. We stayed again last week and the restaurant was open with indoor and outdoor dinning. I highly recommend the outdoor dinning as they have several fire pits on the patio and the with sunset on the lake is the perfect backdrop for dinner. I the restaurant alone is worth a look even if you aren't staying in the hotel. The food and service are better than the fine steak houses at the major resorts (Friday's Station at Harrah's used to be my favorite) and it is a much better setting especially now, as you do not have to trek through a casino to get to the restaurant.

They also have a second floor terrace over the restaurant that had just been refinished since out last stay. They installed a new floor which looks very nice and there is a fireplace to relax by. I understand they use it as a wedding and event space (it would be an excellent place to have a wedding with the lake as the back drop) but nothing was planned while we were there so it was open to the guests. If you stay on the second floor it is right outside your door so we let our son and the dog watch TV while we took one of the bottles of wine from the room out to the terrace. We found it to be the perfect place to relax and watch the sun set. It was quiet and had a beautiful view of the lake.

I live in the Bay Area so Tahoe is a place I like to get away to when I can. I have been going there for years but unfortunately it took me this long to find The Landing. I'm so glad we did though, between the friendly staff, the rooms, the excellent restaurant, not to mention the location with its proximity to the water and convenience, I find that I don't really want to leave the resort. I can't imagine a reason to stay anywhere else when I'm in Tahoe. Next time though, I think Mom and I might sneak up there by ourselves, because as pet and family friendly as they are, It is also the perfect place for a romantic getaway that we are long overdue for.

Room tip: Use the second floor terrace. The perfect place to enjoy glass of wine and watch the sun set on the lake.

My husband, our four children, and I arrived in Lake Tahoe at 1am after a long travel day from Texas, only to find the VRBO we had booked, confirmed, and paid for had inexplicably locked us out. We called The Landing at 2am, and Victoria was unbelievably helpful. She managed to find us 2 rooms right across the hall from each other so we could all be together, and the rooms were just lovely. We’ll be forever grateful to Victoria and The Landing. Our stay here was unplanned but wonderful!
