Clean room at a fair price

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 27 Aug 2018
Our stay was nothing spectacular, but it was just fine. The room was clean and comfortable, and the breakfast was very good. We enjoyed our time near the lake, and will likely stay here again. I recommend this as a quick stop off point.

This was pretty much just a place to sleep overnight. The room was mostly clean though we did find someone else’s bra in the closet area. The bathroom is teeny tiny and one of the knobs on our sink was broken so there was not hot water. The walls are thin and there is a lot of noise in the early evening. It appears that there may be long term residents. What was good for us was the location since we planned to be up at the Emerald Bay Park and Pope Beach.

My wife and I became discouraged while scoping out the climbing room rates this weekend, and feared we'd be paying close to $300 for just one night at any of the hotels that still had availability. I made a last minute booking at the Emerald Bay Lodge (while we were en route) and arrived to be nothing short of blown away. The gentleman running the office, Bill, was the nicest and most hospitable person we've ever met at any hotel. He upgraded our room to one with a kitchen, made us feel very welcome, and we ended up paying a fraction of what competing hotels were charging. The staff was very courteous, the property was vibrant and inviting, and our stay couldn't have been any more enjoyable. I strongly encourage anyone and everyone to have an awesome experience, much like the one that we did.

Great hotel next to a bike trail that goes directly to one of the beaches. They had matching beach cruisers that they allowed the guests to use freely. It was a very good location for the price I paid. Friendly service and a cozy room. Each room was also given a breakfast basket which was nice! I got hungry late at night so it was good that there was a handful of restaurants that were only a 5 minute walk from the lodge. Will come back again!

This "lodge" looks okay on the exterior, but our room was a disaster. The first thing we noticed was how dark the room was. There were several missing light bulbs, which a young woman (not sure what her capacity with the "lodge" is) replaced. The bulbs were still very dim, so that evening reading was impossible. The bulbs provided were a mix of incandescent and CFLs.

Next, we noticed that the smoke detector hung lifeless from the ceiling with no batteries. Again, the young woman, with the help of someone who seemed to be her brother, found a battery and replaced that.

Next, we saw that there were no microwave and refrigerator, as advertised. Again, the young woman and man shuffled around, and "found" one from the room next to ours. They moved the appliances to our room, along with the coffee set up, including a dirty cup, which the young woman saw and replaced.

We wanted to hang our coats in the closet...no hangers. Again, the young woman found some.

Went to wash our hands...hot water tap in the sink spun uselessly. Reported it to manager, who said that we could have hot water by reaching UNDER the sink and turning the valve on and off again each time we used it.

Ceiling Fan: wobbled and creaked a great deal....not of use to us.

Wifi: worked only if we went outside the room. As we were sitting out in the evening trying to catch up on emails, someone came along and told us to watch out for a bear family, so we went back in to NO wifi.

TV: old, outdated, and the remote didn't work. Once we got the TV on, the cable wasn't working.

The bed seemed reasonably clean, so we settled in to sleep. BUT, the window blinds which were splashed with something very nasty looking, were bent and broken in places, so we placed strips of toilet paper to gain privacy. In addition, the blinds were not adequate, and light streamed into the room all night. The next morning, we tried to open the blinds, and the entire thing crashed to the floor.

We tried to make coffee....pot didn't work.

Toilet paper holder was about to fall off. Bath mat was tattered and dirty looking. No hair dryer. No tissues.

No pictures on the walls, but there were nails where some had been.

After this night of nightmares, we went to approach the management, but she didn't come in until 9 am. When she did, we asked her how she could, in good conscience, put someone in a room like that. She said, "because my boss tells me to." She accepted no responsibility, indicating that this was a job for her, and she would do as the owner requested. She said he has put a little money into the outside of the buildings, but wasn't doing much to the insides.

She gave us his name and told us to Google it to read about him and we would understand. We did do that.

I cannot see how anyone would want to stay in this motel. It did appear that there were long term rentals, as we talked with a family in the two rooms next to ours.

We would have sought another place, but it was late afternoon and nothing was available. We had no idea, from the motel's website, how disgusting it would be.

Room tip: The small trip of rooms parallel to the highway are slightly better, but only marginally.

Just returned from staying two nights at this motel. Not a bargin for sure. I was disappointed from the moment I checked into the place. Lady at the desk was pleasant but not very professional. I had made a reservation through Tripadvisor was expecting that I would be asked for some sort of identification - not so! I could have been any body off of the street. After I was given key card I was handed a basket that contained by "breakfast" for the next morning and was advised that I should come back tomorrow to get the next day's breadfast When I opened the door to my room I was really dissapointed. My delux king room was unbelieveably small and cramped. The mini blinds has broken blinds and could not be adjusted or opened. In general the room was clean but the lone chair in the room was stained. There was no microwave as advertised. The swimming pool was closed for repairs - here it was the middle of July. When I querred the reason I was given a unconvincing reason. On the next morning when we started on our "breakfast" we were unable to make the coffee that was supplied because there was no coffee maker in the room. When we went to the motel office it was closed with a sign saying it would open at 9 AM and we were up at 7:30. We had to drive down the road to get are coffee at a coffee shop! The location of the motel is great and it is a nice property with tall pines and space. However it appears to have a lot of "resident" tenants and is a bit "seedy". The final disappointmet occurred when we returned at 6PM to ask the manager about how we would be getting our morning coffee on the next day, only to find the office closed at 6PM on a Saturday night. We left at 8AM the next day never to return again.
