Set in a secluded spot along a narrow road in glorious Devon countryside, Pool Barn was everything we could have wished for as we took a three-day break for a family Christening in Brixton itself. The barn conversion is cleverly done, with good solid furniture and all the things you need for a comfortable self-catering stay. The owner, who lives next door (although the design of the place makes that hard to believe), is charming and helpful and the property itself immaculately maintained and spotlessly clean. Great location for getting to beach and to visit all the delightful towns and villages that make this part of the world so special. An unreservedly five star holiday let.
We had a wonderful stay at Pool Barn. The barn itself was clean and nicely decorated. The location was sensational - such pretty countryside and so quiet. And there are so many things to do in the area. We loved it. Claire was a lovely host and we certainly recommend it as a holiday house.
Stayed with my two girls in October half term.
Lovely barn. Lovely hosts. Lovely setting.
Very well equipped and very clean.
Will be back!
Had an amazing stay at Pool Barn with my 3 children. The barn is in an ideal location for trips to many beautiful places in both Devon and Cornwall. Well equipped, this accommodation has everything including a washing machine and dishwasher! Lots of lovely extras like tea and coffee and even a pint of fresh milk in the fridge for our arrival. Claire and Ben are very hospitable and made us very welcome. Will definitely return.
On arrival, we immediately noticed the place had not been cleaned for us. So dirty we estimated 2+ months since a proper clean. It took 3 tries by the owners to make it liveable!! 'Unacceptable'. not our words, the male owners words ! He explained he had little to do with the property.. The female was rude and made ridiculous excuses for why it was dirty. She ignored us for the rest of our week, despite close contact. She wouldn't even look at us. RUDE ! There was so much dirt and hair on the floors that when you moved, you could see it all move too... I put out 30 large spiders during our week there, incl 10 in the first half hour. Unlucky ? no. The webs were old, established and in every corner, floor to ceiling. Fridge? dirty, kitchen surfaces? dirty, toilet area? dirty. The loo brush was disgusting. Dog poo on the lawns outside the property. I could go on and on.... This was our yearly holiday. We have complained to Toad Hall Cottages, the agent. Despite the owner's admission that this place was unacceptably dirty and our experience that it remained dirty but liveable after 3 attempts at cleaning, a cheap bottle of wine left in the kitchen is to be our only compensation... On pointing out the general dirtiness, the female made the whole thing truly embarrassing and awkward. Toad Hall Cottages manager, Adam Ford answered our emails in such a way that it was hard to believe he'd read them properly . I would not recommend this company or let to anyone.
