We choose to walk to the beach and to the Clavell Tower after a fabulous lunch at Clavell’s restaurant. If you want to drive the mile, you can choose between pay parking above the beach or alternative parking at the boat slip. The latter is very close to the stairs up to the tower. The tower itself is private but the view from the public footpath is great on a fine day.

We went rock pooling with our 2 year old, he needed to be carried down the steps but then it was perfectly ok to walk over with sensible shoes.
We arrived at 9am when the tide was still out. Loads of rock pools to see.
Found a fossil on the walk back :)
Paid £5 for a car but when you look at other parking prices for a full day in this stunning location, it’s really worth it.
The place is just so beautiful you must visit.

This land is privately owned and charge per vehicle. £10 FOR A CAR AND YOU CAN STAY ALL DAY! We arrived early 9am. The weather was over cast and windy tide high. This turned out great as we saw the rocks covered with water then again when the tide was out. This was so special! There is a walking path and some steps to the observatory for which I would recommend sturdy walking shoes. The marine centre is free to attend (donation only) and has displays of live and fossil marine life. There are toilets at the marine showers.
On a clear day you can snorkel. You can also surf. We looked for fossils (no hammers). You wont be disappointed.

Incredibly beautiful. One of the most picturesque beaches to visit in Dorset. Full or fossils every where you look.

Our visit came about through an unusual conversation with a friend. I couldnt wait to steal the idea, so off we went.
With some anticipation we parked on top of what could only be described as a cliff top; But once you follow the path down to the bay, this little gem of beauty and history comes to life. As the tide pulls back it unearths an extraordinary sea bed full of rock pools, unusual shaped rocks and beautiful fossils. So many that your eyes begin to adjust to the sheer quantity, like looking up to the night's sky.
As for the cliffs themselves...well I urge you to take time for a visit for yourself!!
