“Fantastic accommodation and great surroundings for the place to relax and unwind”

We stayed in the larger of the two cottages, The Old Shippen, and the conversion from the old barns has been brilliant. The interior has been done to a top standard and the underfloor heating is lovely. There has been wonderful use made of the space and the mezzanine area is great for relaxing and looking out over the views.
It is on a working farm and we had a glorious view right next to a field with sheep and lambs with fresh free range eggs a speciality.
Sambrook is a peaceful, friendly village with some wonderful circular walks and has a great village pub with local beers and super food and has the benefit of being only 5-10 minutes from the cottages.
The owners, Sarah and Andrew, are very friendly, helpful and nothing is too much trouble for them, they were fabulous 'hosts'.
An absolutely fantastic place to relax and unwind and certainly somewhere we will return too.

Management Response

I'm really pleased you enjoyed your stay with us & found the cottage a cosy and warm place to come back to in this brisk winter weather we are having. The Three Horseshoes is great and within walking distance which is even better.

“High End Country Retreat”
Reviewed 22 September 2012 for a stay in September 2012

My husband, 6 month old baby and I stayed at the Old Shippen for a week in Sept 12. We were immediately welcomed on arrival by the owner Sarah who showed us around the cottage and explained it's facilities. Having seen the pictures and reviews we expected the cottage to be nice but the pictures don't do it justice - it is even nicer in reality! Finished to a very high standard, it has everything you need - a luxury home away from home.

We particularly enjoyed the fully functioning kitchen which made entertaining and travelling with a small baby a breeze. The underfloor heating ensured that the cottage was always warm and cosy and had a good supply of hot water. The idyllic country views of fields, river, old water mill, livestock and friendly pet sheep made for an incredibly relaxing stay.

The village of Sambrook boasts a great local pub - The Three Horseshoes, which offers great food and a warm welcome, just around the corner from the cottages, which we used on several occaisions. The town of Newport - a five minute drive away offers a good choice of shops and a supermarket which made getting supplies very easy.

During our stay Sarah and her lovely family were on hand to offer help and advice if required but were never intrusive. We had a wonderful family holiday and are planning to return to the cottage next year. We would highly recommend this cottage for a very comfortable and relaxing get away from it all break.
