Great, friendly hotel. Steve couldn't do enough to help us, the carvery was great, the breakfast was too. The staff were very helpful and the rooms very comfortable. It was great that there were bedding options of a sheet and blanket or quilt

We have just had a superb Sunday lunch at Dormy House. The meats were beef, turkey, pork or gammon with roast and new potatoes, carrots, carrot and suede, petit pois with cabbage, cauliflower cheese (superb) homemade yorkies and turkey or beef gravy.

When I say a “proper” Carvery, you can go back as often as you wish although you probably won’t need to!

The meats were amazing and it was the best turkey I have ever had, melt in the mouth delicious.

Everyone was really friendly and pleasant, with a special mention for Matt who was especially (and genuinely) nice to everyone he served.

We regularly eat Sunday lunch out and can be hard to please so well done guys!

This was our first time staying at The Dormy House Hotel and it will most definitely not be the last. Simply cannot find anything to criticise. The new owner, Steve, is very welcoming, friendly, helpful and couldn't be more accommodating as indeed are all the staff who actually smile and seem genuinely pleased to serve you. The room we had was beautifully clean and fresh as was the bathroom which was very modern and also very clean. The food is absolutely excellent, the best we have had eating out for a very long time which is so refreshing these days when you get so many "expensive" eating-out disappointments. My wife is a vegetarian and she was very well catered for having a nut-roast with the carvery which was readily available. There is a good wine menu which is very reasonably priced and the new bar is comfortable, friendly, and has three real ales on tap as well as everything else you could want to drink - what more could you want! There is a wonderful new sun terrace with a lovely sea view and it is sheltered all round. Overall our stay was very pleasurable and we highly recommend this hotel. We will definitely be re-visiting ourselves in the very near future. David B.

Stayed here for a couple of nights while visiting a friend locally. The hotel has recently been taken over by new management who has clearly started to make changes, but these seem to be largely to food menus, bar and the exterior.

Our room suffered from the new security lights switched on at night that look lovely outside, but no consideration had been given to impact on the rooms. Light shone through the thin curtains and lit up the room like Christmas. We complained on day 2 and permission was given to switch off the lights the next night.

The interior bathroom had some further challenges. The electric shower needs replacing as it could only provide boiling hot or freezing cold water sustainably, so neither of us were able to have a real shower. The air circulation fan did not appear to work and there was nowhere to hang up clothes. Towels were clean but thin and rough.

Breakfast was ok, but the move towards a more modern look and feel meant things such as avocado toast (in a bowl!!!) and wild mushrooms were options, but then fruit was still tinned grapefruit and prunes. Tea and coffee, plus toast were delivered early but no offer to refresh at all.

On the flip side everything was clean, the staff were helpful overall and the carvery was the highlight of the stay. I have raised my concerns with the new manager who has yet to respond (even though he suggested dates/times by which he would) but I am sure he is reviewing thoroughly.

In summary, needs some work and not worth the current rate of £140/150 per night compared to other local B&B.

Room Tip: Away from the security lights.

We have recently been coming to Dormy House for the delicious carvery on a Sunday evening - food excellent and staff absolutely lovely. Why cook at home? - the food is superb and we have no prep to do or clearing up - perfect combination. Love it !
