“Lovely tranquil setting”
Reviewed 26 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Our stay was from 18th July 2014 for 1 week with 5 people.
The property is located along part of the River Avon with the river bank forming part of the beautiful well kept gardens. Set below a dense wooded area accessed via a small private track which meanders up then down to the property which secures this hideaway.

The accommodation is well kept, comfortable and all in very good order throughout. The main house has everything you need to cook and enjoy the property. A large patio area facing the river with plenty of seating and easy access to the river.

We fished for a few evenings and mornings, the river is quite fast flowing with under water reeds, but there are gravel areas so these can be fished with ease. We had sizeable roach, chubb and 2 small barbel around 1lb plus in the last evening one chubb of about 3lb. There are much bigger fish in this river of which surfaced a few times, barbel have been caught up to 18lb! There is a small rowing boat which you can use to row across the river and venture further for fishing spots or just a pleasant walk.

There is a fishing lodge with very good accommodation, with shower room/wc facing the river. There is further accommodation (Hay Loft) above a further outbuilding which is again very comfortable, this has steps up to the door.

If you are wanting to get away from it all this is the place, however it is very easy to go to the local community village shop or pubs (10/15 min walk), we found the best pub food was the Bat and Ball a short drive. All the new forest areas are within easy reach with a car, but great to return to the peaceful setting. So you can have days out, or stay or fish and enjoy this really lovely property which is a real credit to the owners, allowing us to share this tranquil hideaway.

PS - We took our two small chihuahuas who loved every minute - note dogs are by the owners discretion. The property is fenced off and gated so dogs are safe but it is always best to know where they are, just in case!

“Escapism”
Reviewed 23 April 2014 for a stay in April 2014

- property clean, quality of bedding excellent, and given its clever modernisation and combi heating is warm and cosy, even on cold nights. Excellent real log fire available just in case.

- fantastic visits from so much friendly wildlife (horses, deer, swans, ducks); together with the large grounds, makes for an excellent base for a family holiday to explore the New Forest by bike or horse

- the lack of en-suite to one of the outer accommodation units (the Hayloft) was a surprise, though manageable. The views DOWN the river from the beds in the adjoining 'River Cottage' a great treat for my family guests.

- escapism ... but .... in the absence of a 2G/3G/4G signal by any Telco provider, WIFI is an absent necessity

Thank you for your comments about Undercastle Cottage. We're very glad you enjoyed your stay. It is in a unique setting. Your comment about Wifi is noted but perhaps part of the 'escapism' this cottage affords, at the end of a track by the river, is not having to worry about emails or phone messages for once.
