We arrived in the off season when the train doesn’t run, but it’s a brief 15 min climb from the train stop up the hill, if you’re reasonably fit.

Going out of season meant we had the stunning view all to ourselves, and it didn’t disappoint in the slightest.

If you travel to the Isle of Man then this is one stop you can’t miss!!

Myself and a friend decided to walk up Snaefell so we drove to near the Joey Dunlop statue where we parked and set off. From this point to the top it took about 35-40 minutes. The first part was ok and it was only when we neared the summit that the climb became significantly steeper. Having said this, no specialist mountain equipment is required to reach the top.
At the summit the effort was all worthwhile because the view was fantastic and a clear day so we could see, England, Ireland, and Scotland. Really recommend this climb.

I climbed this as a child some twenty...ahem..thirty...ahem thirty five years ago. It's not too arduous. The footpath from the Bungalow is a bit hard to spot - it's not very signed. But it's basically just next to the Bungalow and starts at the kissing gate! Parking is just at the side of the road. The Summit Hotel was closed - we were here in half-term; so I'd check if you were banking on an emergency cup of coffee (or indeed if you were using it as a bribe for moanalots).

We weren't able to catch the train to the summit as it is, at present, out of action. We decided to walk, and drove to near the Joey Dunlop statue where we parked and set off. We had been told that the walk from this point would take about forty minutes and this estimate was accurate.. The first part was relatively easy and it was only when we neared the summit that the climb became significantly steeper. Having said this, no specialist mountain equipment is required to reach the top.
At the summit the effort was all worthwhile because the view was fantastic.
We thoroughly recommend this climb.
