Great property for a small party/family group.

I work for an inbound tour operator and the property is definitely not for overseas clients - except those on a low budget. Most of the average South Africans will enjoy the stay at the house. We booked the whole house on a self catering basis.

Huge area for kids to run around. Covered parking. Within walking distance from the grocer, butchery, liquor store, basically the whole town.

In winter the water freezes in the pipes. When the temp drop below freezing point - don't expect water early mornings - not even hot water :).

We had a great great time - THANK YOU ESTHER!!!

Room tip: If you are used to luxury, this is not for you. Average South African home away from home. Space for kids to play rugby.

This guest house was booked by the travel agency. A very nice elderly man welcomes you. The owner is a women with a shop in the village. She did not invest a penny since 1960 in this facility we guess. It was a self catering guestroom. No light in the bedroom. They had to move light bowls from another room in order to get a little bit of light. The bed is very small. Furniture from 1960. The chair was kept together with a rope because it was broken. No terrace. You may read a book outside on the parking spot. Breakfast is o.k.
On case you like old stuff...there is an origi nal tv from 1965 but it does not work.
No internet connection.
Tip: have dinner in the Blue moon resraurant. Good place to stay also. They have B and B. Nice lady runs the house and they have good food.

We stayed in the self catering unit. The unit has a private entrance and consists of a double bedded room, a bathroom, a small sitting room with bunk beds and a small but well equipped kitchen. Houses in Sutherland are very simple and old but everything was clean and worked. We enjoyed a good peaceful night's sleep. It is great value for money.

This was very convenient as a stop over enabling us to do a tour of the world famous South African Astronomical Observatory in the afternoon and go star gazing in the evening.

One thing I can say for this guest house is that I never got cold while in bed!!! And that is very important. The room was neat and clean and the location is very good. This is however not a guesthouse where you stay if you want to interact with the managers, as they are not on premises.

We had to reschedule a visit to Sutherland and the owner, Anelia Marais of this establishment was very understanding and "accommodating" to move the paid accommodation to an alternate date. The accommodation was rustic but satisfactorily met the need for a sleepover. The bedding and the shower was clean. We went in summer so the extreme cold weather was not a problem, not sure how it would be to stay there in winter. The complementary farm bread was one of the highlights.

Room tip: only one so not much of a choice
