But we still bought a scarf!! The craftsmanship was amazing to the rest of Burano. The amount of attention to detail is crazy in the lace. Even if you don’t buy, just go in to observe the little old lady making lace in the back.

Visited the Island of Burano and the first shop we came across once stepping off the vaporetto was Martina Vidal. Spread over an expansive 3 floors a wide range of exquisite handmade lace pieces awaited...everything including table/bed/bath linen and clothing. We were greeted by a staff member called Vanessa. Extremely knowledgeable and patient, she showed us what appeared to be an endless variety of table runners! We decided to explore the rest of the island before committing to a purchase...unlike in some of the other shops we visited, there was absolutely no pressure to buy. Having viewed the other shops, we soon realised that the quality and detail of the lace in Martina Vidal was far superior and so we returned. My wife was extremely happy with her purchase and Vanessa was the consummate professional with excellent customer service...she even offered to make us a coffee! A visit to Burano is definitely not complete without a visit to Martina Vidal. Highly recommended!

Martina Vidal is an outstanding shop that focuses on fine lace. Just a couple of blocks from the Vaporetto stop, this store has a wide selections of clothing, tablecloths, napkins, bed sheets and other household items that carry the famous Burano lace. Several types of lace, and several types of material can be found, but the common denominator is that high quality of the work and the delicacy of the products. If you have any appreciation for fine lace, please do not miss it.

Like many others have said, this is a stunning store and you will be accompanied by a saleswoman. Just expect it. Their products are exquisite and I was very appreciative to see a lacemaker working on a piece. My saleswoman, Ginanina, was charming and had a sense of humor as I told her many times that I was not there to purchase. She took me up to their museum for marvelous examples of Venetian lace. I also met the proprietress, Martina Vidal, who was very gracious and took the time to explain the differences between Venetian lace and bobbin lace. In the end, I did end up buying two hankerchiefs - one for myself and one for my niece for her wedding day. You may not have the budget, and lace may not be your thing, but you cannot help but admire the remarkable craftsmanship of the products they sell.
