I am not so sure about the quality of food, but the quality of the service was terrible. We’ve experienced some rude waiters in Italy and it was by far the worst. The waiter treated us like invisibles. He wouldn’t look at us or speak to us even though we tried to catch his attention. We were having a great time in Venezia until our visit to Burano Island. It was very disappointing and upsetting.

Had an outstanding lunch experience today at Al Gatto Nero Da Ruggero at Burano.
Awarded a well deserved Michelin star, this unpretentious restaurant offers fantastic value for the quality of food & service. I can’t think of any other restaurant that has made the dining experience so relaxed & enjoyable.
Recommend making a booking in advance, but even if you need to queue for a table it’s worth the wait.

If you’re in Venice for more than a day or two you really should visit the outer lagoon islands of Murano (famous for glass blowing) and Burano (famous for Venetian lace). This canal-side restaurant on Burano was visited by Andrew Zimmern on the Travel Channel’s show, “Bizarre Foods.” Trattoria al Gatto Nero is best known for one of the starters on its menu – “risotto Burano style,” made with a broth flavored with a tiny cuttlefish harvested from the muddy lagoon bottom.

This place lives up to the hype. Advanced reservation is likely required. Was our favorite restaurant in Venice (which I guess isn’t saying much) and was one of the best spaghetti w/ claims I’ve had in all of Italy (including Napoli). Price is not any higher than the thousands of tourist traps you find in Venice. Great place!

This is the second time that I’ve been here in two years. The food was not good last time. This time it was terrible. The signature dish, risotto al burinella, might as well been tinned rice. Next was the grilled sardines, not fresh and tasted burnt. The mixed fried fish was dry, over cooked and similarly disappointing. The side serves of vegetables, artichoke slices, was tasteless mush. The French fries only tasted of old frying oil.
The staff try hard and the service is very good and friendly. The restaurant has excellent decor with beautiful plates with fish motifs.
But what really caps it off is the comparison to an ordinary osteria in Cannareggio, where for half the price, we had an excellent meal of fresh and properly fried fish.
Have a drink and eat elsewhere.
