“Great day trip safari”
Reviewed 6 April 2016

I booked a day trip safari with this group. In total it lasted about three hours, but it was a good full three hours of adventure. Out ranger guide, Sean, went above and beyond to show us some of the animals that most don't usually get to see. I saw elephants, lions, buffalo, zebra, rhinos, hippos, cheetah, etc. I have never been so close to a lion before, guessing about 5 meters. It was a bit scary and exhilarating at the same time. I think you get the point, you will not be disappointed. I would recommend a camera with a medium to large zoom lens that has vibration reduction as you may be shooting from the jeep. Most of the time we were able to stop to take photos though.

This is a little piece of heaven only 3hrs out of Cape Town. Please be aware the dirt track is bumpy and is for about 20km in total.
The game reserve itself... Stunning.... However I will agree with another reviewer that our room was NOT as luxurious as the brochure shows. It was very old and weathered. The food was good.. Lunch was lovely and dinner was 5 courses (a little much) but good. The kids meals were huge!
Kayla our ranger was out of this world. She was so patient with my son (7) who was asking lots of questions. The Rangers will find all the animals if they can over the am and pm safari which was fantastic for us to see. The safari's were about 2.5hrs long each and as we were there in April they were cold! Make sure you pack coats and long trousers, socks etc as it does get very cold.
This is a place where lunch, dinner, snacks and the safari's are all at set times so if you are not a follower this is not a place for you.. The pool area is stunning also, there was no wind here so we could just chill- bliss...

My husband and I stayed for 2nights at Inverdoorn in March.
To start with the both their web site and their brochure do not show all the accommodation on offer. We booked on line and when we arrived were initially very disappointed in our accommodation. The pretty pictures on the web site and in the brochure only show the luxury chalets and the individual little white cottages. We were initially placed in a terraced row of chalets type rooms behind the swimming pool. We were upgraded (we paid the extra) to one of the cottages. The rooms were quite adequate but certainly not at the luxury end of the market.
This may have been our mistake when booking but just be aware that not all the accommodation is as the web site or the brochure suggests.
We had decided as a special treat to stay for two nights at Inverdoorn as we expected to get even more from the experience by doing so. This was a major mistake.
Our first day at Inverdoorn was good. We enjoyed a nice lunch and our evening safari was very interesting. We did indeed see lots of animals.
We returned to the camp, cold but ready for a pleasant dinner and drinks by a campfire.
The following early morning game drive was also good and we saw different animals on this drive.
We returned to the camp at around 9am for breakfast, and this is where things started
to go wrong.
There was no place set for us at the area in the camp being used for breakfast. We were, with another couple escorted round to the back of the camp to a small tent used, we were told by those guests booked into the luxury accommodation.
Breakfast was reasonable, (I only had fruit and toast) but the tent was small and cramped and we did not linger long over breakfast.
We had a relaxing time until lunch time. Lunch was again served under large tents in the centre of the camp. The only problem was that there was not enough food. The menu displayed, stated, that there was to be chicken and beef kebabs with a selection of salads. There were three, rather dried up beef kebabs, some limp salad and a pasta. I asked if we could please have some more chicken kebabs and the staff at this point all disappeared!
I finally had to go and look for a member of staff. I located someone and was told that more kebabs would be produced.Ten minutes later we were told that there were no more chicken kebabs left but that they could give us chicken wings. We and a few other couples agreed to this. Another 15 minutes elapsed before the chicken wings arrived(you can imagine the state of the salad by this time)
Luckily I did not bite into the chicken but pulled it apart with my hands. It was completely raw! Not under cooked, RAW.
At this point I took the offending chicken to reception to complain. We were assured that something else would be provided for our lunch. We waited for another 15minutes and what appeared? More chicken wings, or was it the last lot reheated?
We declined and returned hungry to our chalet.
Can I also mention at this point that the buffet table was regularly visited by flocks of birds, pecking about at the desserts and anything else that took their fancy. The food was left uncovered in the open air.
The evening game drive, was this time disappointing, as we covered exactly the same ground as we had done the previous evening, saw exactly the same animals in exactly the same positions and heard exactly the same commentary from our guide.
We had a disappointing dinner (fish, rather dry) that evening and at that point we decided not to participate in the following mornings game drive as we assumed it would be exactly the same as the previous days morning drive, seeing the same animals in the same places etc.
The literature produced by Inverdoorn does not make it clear( we could not find their terms and conditions) that everything, like the interaction with the cheetahs is only accessible to visitors staying in the luxury rooms.
We left early the next morning with a packed breakfast of cheese and tomato sandwiches.
On reflection, we would have been better to spend our money on staying for one night in the luxury accommodation.
They did have the good grace not to charge us for the drinks we had consumed, two bottles of wine a few beers and a couple of cokes.
The repetitive game drives aside, it was as if no one was in charge on the second day of our stay, which was a pity as our first day had been good. Maybe the manager was having a day off!

Room Tip: don't stay for 2 nights

I would like to personally apologize for the series of unfortunate incidences that you experienced during your stay with us. We continually try to do our very best for all of our guests. I will look into each issue that you have noted, in an attempt to correct and improve our services.
We have double checked and our website www.inverdoorn.com does in fact offer all the accommodation types, which includes the guesthouses, chalets, luxury chalets and ambassador suite. The individual white cottages are our chalets and you have booked for our guest house accommodation. Staff have informed us that you have specifically asked for a chalet and therefore have moved you and paid the difference.
We are pleased to hear you had a wonderful safari experience on our game drive. For breakfast all guesthouse and chalets guest will have breakfast together either at the poolside or within the restaurant, yet the guest went to the luxury chalet restaurant(Private Lapa) and unfortunately did not find a table set up for them, as they did not book for our luxury or ambassador suites.
Unfortunately, we have run out of chicken and sincerely apologize for this, yet we did offer to serve more chicken, and preparation took some time. We have addressed the matter of the raw chicken to the kitchen staff and will investigate this matter further. For this reason, the Lodge have offered guest complimentary drinks.

We were very impressed with the quality of Inverdoorn. Granted, we were in a luxury chalet. The park was everything we hoped for. Close to Cape Town, so it was a reasonable drive. Food was reasonable, although that wasn't what we were there for.
Our guide on the two safaris was great.

Room Tip: Luxury chalets have rooftop decks, although you spend little time on them

Whilst in Cape Town and telling people we were going to Inverdoorn, nobody had heard of it. They all knew of Aquila though. These people need to be educated on this fantastic reserve which is just under 3 hours drive away from Cape Town through a beautiful drive around the mountains! When we arrived we were seated under a canopy and given a welcome drink. We were then advised of the agenda for our stay and then taken to our room. We had only booked a standard triple room as to be honest, how long are you in the room for? I was very pleasantly surprised with the size and accommodation though. Everything is new and up to date and there is air conditioning in the room. We had a buffet lunch at 1pm and then spent an hour or so around the pool before our first safari at 4.30pm. Snacks and drinks are served beforehand. The safari guide called Chantelle was really knowledgeable and clearly enjoys her work. It's a little cold as the sun goes down so make sure you take jumpers with you. We ended this safari watching the cheetahs race around a track. Upon getting back to the lodge, we had a 4 course dinner and then retired to bed ready for our 6am safari the following morning. This was my favourite one as we saw the lions, giraffes and elephants. Then we went back to the reserve for breakfast.

All meals are served either by the pool or by reception. The tables are labelled with your name so you know exactly where to sit. All the staff are friendly and helpful. It's a beautiful location and thoroughly recommended.

Well worth a trip here. Thank you Inverdoorn
