Such a special place. I had the opportunity to stay here a couple of weeks ago at the end of the low season. Ricardo and team have put together something special.
I'm in my early 40's and surfed for the first time six months ago in Sagres. I was looking to for a chill place that was offering surfing and yoga. I found the last time a tried surfing, by the 3rd or 4th day, I was incredibly sore. It turns out that Yoga and Surfing compliment each other perfectly.
Peniche and the surrounding area has so many places to surf, that you'll always find something to suit your ability and skill level.
Boa Onda is positioned just a few minutes walk from Praia da consolacao (just down the beach from super turbos) This area is far more Portuguese, less touristy. The upside is that the few spots around you for dinner are excellent and a good value for money. (check out sole vide)
The rooms are very cute and tidy. We started off in an ensuite just at the front of the house but moved to the ensuite on the other side of the house (I recommend that room, with a nice cross breeze) The communal area consists of area to have meals and area out front to just chill.
This is where Boa Onda shines. Riccardo runs the show. He's an Italian expat, who's been in Peniche for the past three years and has lived all over the world. He's passionate about what he does, and it shows. He cares about your surfing progress and that you are being looked after. He's brilliant bloke, and look forward to hanging out and surfing with him in the future
Valentina, is the heart of the operation, one of the nicest people you'll meet. Valentina would prepare our packed lunch (a hummus and caramelised onion sandwich and a frittata. Simple and delicious, it would take her an hour to prepare as she made the houmous from scratch, and was caramelising the onions or squeezing fresh orange juice. We ended up taking lunch every day, as it was just delicious.
Giulio aka "The Italian Bradley Cooper" is another great guy. He spent a couple of days babysitting me. Every set he was having me improve my technique. My last day at Boa Onda, I snuck in a quick session before leaving. I had about and hour to get my fix, and in 40 mins I had gotten up about 7-8 times. (Which is about triple my best day)
Evening Yoga with Suzanna was such a treat. She knew we were going to be with her for a week, so she worked on a weekly progression, building up to new techniques we hadn't tried in our usual practice. Such an incredible way to finish off a day in the water.
The final night Guilio and Valentina made dinner, was Giulio's seafood pasta with Valentina's homemade chocolate cake and fresh cream. What an excellent way to cap off the trip.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Boa Onda, I can recommend this place without hesitation. It's a special place to chill out and surf... I'm hooked and I'm already scheming and planning my next trip to Peniche!
Amazing stay, Riccardo is the best and a great teacher for surfing and really just wants you to have a great time. Highly recommend for whatever kind of vacation you may be going on as peniche is a gourgeous place with great surf for all levels and amazing food with cheap prices. Will definitely stay here again if I make it back.
