I and four friends stayed here during a cycling trip down the canal. Undoubtedly the best place we stayed on the trip.

Its location on the canal (it actually sits on a island) was a delight, and guaranteed an interesting, ever-changing view when sitting with a pint in the pub garden.

Rooms were terrific - it has recently been refurbished. My twin room included a bath in the room.

Food and service were both excellent.

Would a) go again in a flash and b) wholeheartedly recommend it.

Very smart, clean and well laid out canal side pub/restaurant with plenty of out door space. Main car park is on the other side of the canal for which you need a token to get back through the automated red and white barrier pole. There is also some parking immediately by the front entrance. There is a nice garden area to the side which most people might miss unless you go through the garden room. There is also a reasonable snug area. The staff are excellent, polite and engaging. Their specialty is having a vast selection of gins. The menu is not vast but has a wide selection of meal types to suit most tastes. The hake and steak mains we had were excellent as were the starters (ham hock terrine and rare beef). The meal was good value for money (not particularly inexpensive) and be aware that a 10% service Charge is added automatically (which I believe can be taken off if not happy but this is unlikely). I am however a glass half-full person by nature. Most relaxing and enjoyable and will definitely go again when next passing through on the canal.

Came back here after being shown around the extensive refurbishments by Peter, the owner, last April, and our expectations were understandably high - but we were to be disappointed

It was a rare wet day and the bar was nearly empty at 6 o'clock on a Friday night, but the pub can't be blamed for the weather !

However, the bar maid had clearly lost all enthusiasm for her job - no welcome, no smile, no nothing - and she was the face of the pub, as she was the first member of staff that you meet. The rest of the staff were around but it was difficult to tell the difference between them and the guests as there was nothing to distinguish them as Dundas staff - I even requested a drink from a guest which was embarrassing and awkward !!

The beer was great and can't be faulted

We were shown to a table by a young waiter and ordered the Moroccan Lamb special and the Dundas Burger - I often choose from the specials because they are readily available. He brought our drinks quickly but the food took too long to arrive, so I had to chase the waiter - it arrived soon afterwards

Both the Lamb & the Burger were well presented but the food and the plates were warm and not hot - they had clearly been waiting around for a while. However, the bowl of chips was hot, as were the chips themselves. If the chips can be delivered hot why can't the food be so delivered ?

I ordered a second round of drinks from the waiter and had to wait too long for delivery so I went and collected them myself

I made comment about the food to the waiter and he apologised and said that he would pass on my comments to the kitchen - good thing to do, but it should have been checked BEFORE it left the kitchen, not leave it to the customer to comment. The waiter returned to say that we would not be charged for the food - this was a generous offer but I would have been happy to pay for hot food

A poor experience after looking forward to our visit

Needing something to quench the thirst before the final push into Newbury we found this little gem in Kintbury. With a huge outdoor seating area over looking the canal, this was a lovely place to stop for a quick pint. A good range of beers available on tap along with bar snacks which were very tasty. We didn't have a full meal here, but the plates being carried past us looked great.

The Dundas is in a beautiful location - particularly in the summer.
All service is table service - including drinks - so no choosing at the bar.
Very generous portions and I saw a lot of uneaten being taken away. Pity.
A very pleasant place to while away a few hours.
