I recently stayed at the Chateau to attend a local conference.

This is a classic hotel and as such has many of the classic features that may or may not be your cup of tea. The hotel itself is beautiful. The lobby is ornate and frequently visited by tourists enjoying the city.

Guest service is on par for a Fairmont hotel - outstanding service throughout. Bell hops, restaurant staff, guest service agents are only too eager to please.

As per a classic hotel, there is some variability in the room sizes. My room was barely big enough to house a king-bed, desk, and quasi-dresser. The room itself was clean but did have an aged aroma - not dusty nor moldy, but consistent with the age of the hotel. The bathroom was reasonably sized and well appointed. The closet was deep.
The room could have benefited from somewhere to store clothing as the dresser largely housed a refrigerator and coffee maker with no real room for anything else. There was minimal adjacent room noise throughout my stay suggestive of quality noise-dampening. During my stay the air conditioner wasn't working very well - a particularly hot day - and this was repaired immediately upon notifying guest services.

The hotel gym is adequate and is well maintained.

The location really can' be beat. The hotel stands proud from the old city and can be easily spotted towering above the old rooftops. It is right in the center of the old city and an easy walk to anywhere you'd like to go.

Bottom line:
If you'd like to experience a classic hotel with outstanding service and a fantastic location this is it. If you need room size and want a more contemporary hotel, you'd be better served by accommodations just beyond the old city.

After about 6 trips over the past couple of decades, I finally had an chance to stay at the iconic Chateau Frontenac recently. This historic hotel is charming, and has a beautiful lobby, a great bar area, and comfortable beds. It is a unique property in that the rooms are not cookie cutter and many have unique layouts. The only downside to my stay was, despite my own strong skills with working a Kerurig, I could not get a cup of coffee out to the one in my room no matter how many times I tired. I did report this to the hotel twice and the only remedy given was to leave me an instruction sheet (diagram). So, I've been here and done that, I can stay somewhere else next time.

We recently stayed at the Château Frontenac on our family vacation
It is one of the most beautiful hotels we have ever stayed at
It is incredibly convenient for doing things in the Old City as it is directly above the lower city and you can walk to many things of interest such as the Plains of Abraham
It is also convenient to many first rate restaurants such as Chez Jules, Le Continental, La Buche, and many others- it is literally a two minute walk to such places.

Our rooms were comfortable and the beds were great

The staff is very professional, friendly and obliging.

By far the best thing is the fact you can literally walk out of the hotel onto the boardwalk and have incredible views of the St Lawrence

It is of course a luxury hotel and therefore not inexpensive but it is a good value and we recommend it

Stayed here for three days in a gold floor junior suite. The gold lounge was fabulous. The staff, especially Antoine and Marie, were tremendous. The staff easily spoke English and the lounge was large, elegant, clean and well stocked. The breakfast was more than adequate and drinks/coffee were available throughout the day. Desserts were quite nice. The hotel is at the heart of everything and no need for car or taxi. Concierge staff helpful and check in for the gold floor was on the 14the floor at the lounge and thus was very quick. Rooms cleaned quickly every morning and turn down nightly without asking. Would stay here again without hesitation.

We just got home yesterday and already I feel the need to write a review, which I seldom do anymore. This place was fantastic. Take a look at a photo of this castle and that's exactly what you get. We decided to blow the bank on this trip (this is not a budget accommodation by any stretch) and stayed on the gold floor (14) for the breakfast and evening canapés and the extra attention. The gold floor concierges were incredible. Friendly and helpful and very good with our kids. They alone made for a memorable trip. The lounge was bright and food and drink were very good. The room was amazing and very well appointed. Our view was nothing short of spectacular. The hotel is a gem and a must see. Very similar and yet still a bit different than the equally famous Banff Springs. The pool was OK and gym also just OK. Change rooms for the pool and gym not up to snuff considering the chain and the rest of the hotel. Should be far more luxurious and much larger. Needs a bit of a reno. The hotel restaurants are very nice (again not cheap, like at all) And the bar where my wife and I hung out a couple nights was very beautiful and had a wonderful view of the river and great drinks. That being said... the bar staff felt like a throw back to a nineties night club. The last night we were there it was all guys (no girls at all) so 4 bar tenders and at least another 4 servers and all of them were too cool for school and looked more like unemployed actors than serious bar staff that a place like this should have. We both felt like it needed to take a big step into 2018 and get some women on staff. The guys were more interested in making each other laugh than serving customers. But on the whole, if you can handle the cheese factor (after all it is a cheese bar) still a great place to have a drink. The location of this hotel is insanely perfect. The history is palpable. The beauty is awe inspiring. The room was perfect for our little crew and the gold floor consierge was more than worth the extra money. I can't recommend this place strongly enough.

Room Tip: go for the gold floor. So worth it
