Owner description: Saint Joseph's Oratory of Mount-Royal, founded by Saint Brother André in 1904, is a catholic sanctuary and the largest shrine dedicated to Saint Joseph in the world. We welcome everyone to partake in panoramic views, music concerts and special religious celebrations; come discover natural, cultural and spiritual treasures in the heart of the city. You will marvel at the votive chapel containing 10,000 candles, the Oratory Museum featuring nativity scenes from around the world, the Original Chapel, the spectacular Garden of the Way of Cross, the Crypt Church and the largest domed Basilica in North America.

I enjoyed this Church very much, I liked the grounds more than the modern interior of the Church. There is a small chapel just nearby that is worth seeing too and then the views of the Church from the grounds is surely impressive. You can enter from the front and then up the steps (or down afterward); or drive up the base and walk in to the Church at the correct level.

Some people (and reviewers here) will say that the church is too modern, some like it the way it is with the modern lines, lighting, sculptures and even the various large tiles showing the various stations of the cross. The stained glass is real modern. There is a small chapel to the left of the main sanctuary which is bathed in blue light. That was my favorite part and oh so picturesque.

Well worth checking out, great views of the City from out in front of the Oratory also.

Thank finesilver

Climbing up the stairs and entering the chapel is definitely an experience.

Beautiful architecture and decoration inspires solitude

The view from here is wonderful; the church - main sanctuary impressive, and the chapel serene and lovely. The stations of the cross, winding up the hill are inspiring, and very pleasant - and, that is a big statement, considering we have done the stations of the cross in Jerusalem. It is Canada's largest church and claims to have one of the largest domes in the world, but the dome is not accessible, but that is a minor thing. Saint André Bessette, the doorman, whose vision is responsible for the minor basilica, is an inspiring story, and the facility houses memorabilia from him, and reproductions of his rooms. This is a worthwhile destination, and should not be missed.

This place is great for one day visit. You can have a clear view of Montreal city if it is a sunny day. However don’t go inside the church when they are distributing little white sweet if you are not a catholic. They get really upset.

Although not as visually stunning as Notre Dame Basilica, St. Joseph’s has a serene beauty. There is a shuttle that will take you up to the actual church so you don’t have to climb the 90+ steps. Well worth a visit.
