We haven't been to Taj Indian Cuisine in many, many years, but they've been promoting themselves on Facebook a lot recently and so hubby and I decided to head there for lunch today to see how they're doing.
We arrived at 1:15. Their lunch buffet is on until 2 p.m. We were the only ones there initially although another table of 3 showed up shortly afterwards.
The lunch buffet itself is on the smaller side but has a good assortment. Hubby's favourite Indian dish is Tandoori chicken. There was one small forlorn piece in the warmer tray which he took, but it was a tad dry. They never did refill that tray. I tried the Onion Bhaji which was good, a Jalapeno samosa (stone cold), Butter chicken (very nice sauce but the chicken itself was also a tad dry), Chicken curry (very good with a nice heat) and Channa masala (Chick Peas) which was good as well.
The waiter brought fresh Naan to our table and it was the highlight of the meal. Fresh and warm with a slight crunch. Delicious!
Hubby noticed while heading back from the washrooms at the end of the meal that they had then put out some pappadums which would have been nice to have with some of their chutneys, but we were finished by that time.
With all the effort the Taj is doing enticing customers, the food should be warm and plentiful. They don't have a huge buffet so they need to make it count.
The waiter was very nice and the service was good.
The lunch buffet is $14.99 a person.
We love Indian food and were really hoping that the Taj was going to deliver on all fronts, but we were disappointed. With all the Indian food restaurants around the area, we don't need to return here. The sad thing is, it wouldn't have taken a whole lot on their behalf to have given us a good experience. It's the little things.
