Although not highlighted as a destination for tourists, a visit to the Fairfield Cemetary will allow you to say a silent prayer for the souls lost in 1912’s Titanic disaster. The curators of the cemetary of Fairfield Cemetary and the City of Halifax honored those by giving those lost a beautiful final resting place.

We went in the evening after rush hour traffic. Very easy to find. The titanic graves are clearly marked. A nice place for people to pay their respects to those who so tragically lost their lives. Be respectful.

It is a very moving experience even after all of these years. Many of the gravestones are marked with only a number because the body could not be identified. I was even more amazed how many bodies were able to be identified.

An evocative sight
The Fairview Cemetery is a one of number of cemeteries in Halifax, Nova Scotia that has RMS Titanic dead. It is perhaps best known as largest site for over one hundred and twenty victims of the sinking of the Titanic. Known as the "Titanic Cemetery", it is officially known as Fairview Lawn Cemetery, the non-denominational cemetery operated by the Parks Department of the Halifax Regional Municipality.

The tombstones of the Titanic dead are laid out in a pattern that resembles that of a ship's profile. The site is well marked and accessible by both car or on foot. Your visit will likely invoke a reverential and calming effect.
