This hotel is literally across the street from railroad tracks. The trains blow their horn when passing through the commercial district of White Rock at all hours of the night. 1:30AM, 6:30AM, 6:43AM - these are some of the times we were woken up by trains during our two night stay. The beds aren't very comfortable either.

The first night our neighbours were partying next door and being loud. Called down to reception and asked them if they could ask our neighbours to tone it down a bit. Noise didn't subside so called about 1/2 hour later to complain again and was told that they tried calling them but the phone was busy. Not sure I believe them that they called the first time but after the second complaint the neighbours quieted down.

Room Tip: As far away from the railroad tracks you can get if you must stay here.

On our way to Surrey for a concert the next night and decided to stay near the bay in White Rock. The Ocean Promenade is in the perfect spot to walk everywhere. It was a stormy night but we hardly heard anything. We saw previous complaints of the train sounds but we found that part of the experience we loved. The king sized bed was so comfortable and I loved the way that the blankets were covered with fresh sheets. Woke up to a few inches of snow:-) Will definitely come back and stay longer.

Argh! What a terrible night's sleep. We left the hotel and went to another due to the freight train that runs through the night.. Albeit 10 meters away it feels like it goes through your bedroom.. And I'm sure the train driver rings the train bell on purpose to wake everyone up. Rooms were beautiful it's such a shame on location. Will never stay in again.

I'm guessing that the OP is basically packed all summer long with revellers of all sorts staying close to the White Rock strip. Not that this matters, but I stayed at the OP in early October when the city is a bit quieter.

The rooms are comfortable enough and it does look like they've recently done some heavy renovations (well, except for the leaky old bathtub). The beds are comfortable and they supply a good choice of pillows.

However, I found the service at the checkin desk aloof and vaguely confrontational. The hotel charges an additional fee of $18.00 to park in their lot, but they don't guarantee an available spot for you. Sorry folks, if you take the money you have to provide the service. That's a fairly basic business practice.

The morning clerk (who was a friendly young woman) spent most of her time apologizing to the guests checking out ahead of me (for parking and other issues).

I likely will not stay at the Promenade again because their rates speak to a level of service that they just don't provide.

Room Tip: Many rooms share a deck, but only one has access. Enjoy watching others or being watched by others.

Had a wonderful visit. Made sure to book a suit with a balcony so we could sit out. Nice full kitchen. Didn't get a chance to use the fireplace but maybe next time in the winter. Coffee shot downstairs very busy but nice to grab a muffin and coffee on the way to the promenade. Parkings not great if you have a large vehicle.
