Owner description: The 1,434-seat Royal Theatre, opened in 1913 as the Victoria Opera House, is a heritage jewel. It is the home of the Victoria Symphony, Pacific Opera Victoria, as well as a diverse selection of locally produced entertainment. The Royal is also known as Victoria's "home of the stars", offering a showcase for performances from some of the world's greatest entertainers in theatre and dance to classical music and rock 'n' roll.

Saw a concert here last night and the concert was fabulous but the person in charge of the lighting kept shining spot lights into the audience, thereby blinding them. Couldn't see the star of the show a large portion of the time. The seating is also awful, I felt like I was on a Rouge flight, very narrow seats and no leg room, my knees were touching the seat in front of me and I'm only 5'3".

I attended a concert here and was impressed with the historic decor and the facilities in the foyer. Also close to the city centre.

We regularly attend shows at the Royal Theatre. Not a huge place, the loge (Box) seats hover over the stage and are not considered premium as the view is off centre and into the wings. But you see the performers up close, the effect is powerful and personal. The huge bank of speakers in front of you is super directional and banked away, so you actually aren't blasted by sound. Still, I would pack earplugs or tissue just in case! Get there early to nab a spot in the adjacent parking lot then head to one of the many excellent small restaurants nearby (BeLove, Fishook are the best).

The symphony experience is always better in a classical theatre with good acoustics. Folk concerts also do well here, Sight lines are good, distances not too great.

We have been several times to the Royal. Always a wonderful experience with top-notch entertainment. Plus it's only a block away from our hotel.
